The aerial circus in the NFL will continue to thrive and a number of talented pass catchers will be on the end of those tosses. Julio Jones topped the league in receiving yards last year and he is the odds-on favorite at top NFL sportbooks to do it again in 2019. Jones has caught passes from only one quarterback his entire career and he’s twice led the league while going over the 1400-yard level in receiving yards in each of the past five seasons.
Since the 1970 merger a tight end has never led the league in receiving yards, so we can eliminate guys like Travis Kelce, George Kittle and Zach Ertz, who are all on the odds list. The game is changing, but not enough to allow one of them to outduel Jones, Odell Beckham Jr., DeAndre Hopkins and Michael Thomas. When throwing down on this futures bet at online sportsbooks, stick to a wide receiver. And there are plenty of good ones.

The Falcons are expected to have a vastly improved offense with former coordinator Dirk Koetter back calling plays. Jones had a breakout season in 2014, the last before Koetter left for Tampa Bay, amassing 1,593 receiving yards on 104 catches. That started his prolific run of five consecutive seasons with over 1,400 yards. There is also a strong bond with Ryan, who has started every game of Jones’ NFL career.
Injuries will play a role in this wager, as they will in all futures bets. Numbers will fall drastically off the pace if a player misses a game or two. We saw that with Beckham Jr. the last two years. OBJ is certainly one of the best receivers in the NFL, yet he’s played an entire 16-game season just once in his five years. In 12 games last season OBJ had 1,052 yards, a number that projected to over 1,400 for 16 games. A fresh start in Cleveland with a rocket armed Baker Mayfield throwing to him could be a boon for his numbers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers love offense and Ben Roethlisberger can still sling it. With Antonio Brown out of the picture, JuJu Smith-Schuster is main man, and he’s expected to have a whopper of a year without the distractions. JuJu helped push AB out the door by leading the Steelers and finishing fifth in the NFL with 1,426 receiving yards in 2018. Sharing the football with another top-notch receiver can limit production. JuJu won’t have to worry about that now, and he has some value at +1002.
As long as Michael Thomas doesn’t get too comfortable with his new contract he should have another big season catching bombs from Drew Brees. The Saints consistently have one of the best offenses in the NFL ranking among the top-eight in yards every year since Brees came over in 2006. And Thomas has been a major part over the last few seasons. He led the NFL in receptions in 2018 and was sixth in yards with 1,405. Thomas will be targeted often and if he can increase his yards per catch, he has a good shot at unseating Jones.
Taking a look at some options further down the board, Amari Cooper stands out. With Ezekiel Elliott questionable to start the season and the Cowboys committed to diversifying their offense, Coop is the likely beneficiary. He helped Dak Prescott in the passing game when he joined the club mid-season and should be a bigger part moving forward. He’s a longshot at +2809 but worth the gamble.
