The last of the confetti has yet to hit the turf at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and oddsmakers are already looking ahead to next year with the release of odds to win Super Bowl LIV. The teams that competed in their conference title games and held down the top four spots for most of last season are prominently situated on the early release for 2019.
The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t played in a Super Bowl since before the 1970 merger, but they were the closest they’ve ever been since defeating Minnesota in Super Bowl IX, falling to the eventual champion Patriots in overtime in the AFC Championship. With MVP Patrick Mahomes ready to take the torch from Tom Brady as the next great signal-caller, the Chiefs opened as co-favorites on the odds at BookMaker.eu.
Brady said he isn’t ready to hang up the cleats and as long as he’s quarterback, the Pats should be among the top clubs. And they are. With a record-tying sixth Super Bowl victory last weekend, the Pats are even with the Chiefs at the top of the odds list.
The NFC champion Los Angeles Rams figure to be set up for another run at the title and they are the third favorite. Close behind is the team many felt should have won the conference crown if not for a puzzling no-call in the conference title game. The Saints had the best record in the NFL and were robbed of a chance to play in their second Super Bowl.
At the other end of the list, the Miami Dolphins are the longest of shots at +30000. There have been reports from South Beach that the Fins are ready to tank the season in order to draft a quarterback in 2020. That news sent their odds tumbling, though they weren’t very good to begin with.
Here is the complete list of odds to win Super Bowl LIV, which is scheduled to be played on February 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

You never know what’s going to happen, that’s why it’s called futures betting. We can count on the Patriots making another run as long as Brady is behind center, and he said prior to his record sixth title that he has no plans of retiring, regardless of the outcome. And as long as Brady is back so is Bill Belichick. The two have led the franchise to nine Super Bowl appearances and six wins since the 2001 season, winning the last 10 AFC East titles and reaching the conference championship game in eight straight seasons.
We will have teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears next season. The Jags were among the favorites prior to the 2018 season after reaching the AFC Championship only to blow a fourth quarter lead and bow to the Pats. They crumbled under the lofty expectations and poor quarterback play of Blake Bortles, reverting to the team we’ve seen far too often.
The Bears figured to be better in 2018, but I doubt anyone expected them to win 11 games and the NFC North title. Their fortunes changed prior to the start of the last season with the acquisition of Khalil Mack, who helped turn a good defense into a great one. Now if they can only get a kicker. The Bears lost the architect of that defense when Vic Fangio accepted the head job in Denver, leaving former Colts head coach Chuck Pagano as the new DC.
It’s not going to be easy for the Rams to repeat as NFC champs with the expected loss of several defensive players. And they sure need Jared Goff to continue developing after his worthless display against the Patriots in SBLIII. And what’s up with Todd Gurley? It will be a dogfight in the NFC and the Saints will try and milk one more quality season out of Drew Brees.
All these issues and questions will work themselves out when the NFL’s centennial season gets underway in September.
