NFL Betting – Team To Go Undefeated In 2019

If it was so easy more than one team in the history of the NFL would have recorded a perfect season. Many have come close but none prior or since did what the 1972 Miami Dolphins accomplished by going 17-0. Celebrated every year when the last unbeaten team losses, members of that team are a part of league history.

It may have been easier back in the day before salary caps and free agency, but the Dolphins are the only ones to go unbeaten and untied through a regular season and playoff. What makes it more difficult today, on top of the parity in the NFL, is the schedule. Teams vying for a perfecto now would have to play two more games. The schedule was expanded to 16 regular season matchups starting with the 1978 season.

The 2007 New England Patriots are one of four teams and the last to complete a perfect regular season. They were close to outdoing the ’72 Dolphins but lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl that season. The Pats actually won more games in a row with 18 before bowing out. Top offshore sportsbooks are offering odds for any team to complete a spotless regular season record and a perfect overall record.

There is hope that a perfect season can and will happen again. Everything has to fall into place like it did for the ’72 Dolphins. Most people forget that they played most of the season with a backup quarterback. Bob Griese was injured in Week 5 that year and 38-year-old backup Earl Morrall won the next nine starts never completing more than 12 passes in a game. Good thing for the Fins they had the best running game in the league and they rode that, along with the NFL’s top overall and scoring defense.

When the subject of a perfect season comes up today, attention immediately turns to the Patriots. And why not, they’ve been the model franchise for nearly two decades, had a perfect regular season in 2007, and have won at least 10 games every season since 2003. That’s all impressive, but the Pats haven’t really threatened another undefeated campaign since 2007. They did win their first 10 games in 2015, but outside of that year they haven’t won more than four in a row to start a season.

It’s been about 30 years between the last three unblemished regular seasons. The Chicago Bears turned the trick in 1942 going 11-0 only to lose the NFL Championship. Exactly 30 years later the Dolphins made history and 35 years after that the Pats came within a victory of duplicating Miami’s feat.

If you’re looking to place a wager on “yes” for either bet, consider that it’s more rare for a team that had less success the previous season to rise up to perfection. That leaves a handful of teams that are the most likely to make you a winner. The Los Angeles Rams started 2018 with eight straight victories and were the last team to lose a game. They are expected to be a Super Bowl contender again in 2019. Also look out for the Kansas City Chiefs, one of two teams to win double-figure games in each of the last four seasons. Patrick Mahomes is coming off an MVP season and KC upgraded its defense this offseason in an attempt to get to its first post-merger Super Bowl.

The odds are stacked against any team going having a perfect regular season or complete season. You have to bet a lot to make a little on the “no” so it’s almost worth the trouble to drop a few bills on a perfect season for a whopping payout if it happens.
