With a quarter of the season remaining to be played, the NFC East is looking like a two-team race, and entering Week 14 the Dallas Cowboys are in the driver’s seat. The Boys are coming off their biggest win of the season when they stymied the Saints high-powered offense and came away with a 13-10 verdict for their fourth consecutive triumph. The offense is still lagging but the underrated defense has the Cowboys thinking about a division championship. They still have to hold off the defending champs, who enter riding a two-game winning streak after dropping the Redskins on Monday night.

You won’t hear any complaints from Doug Pederson and the Eagles over the schedule heading into this week’s encounter. It wouldn’t do any good anyway. Philly heads to Big D for its NFC East showdown after playing and winning on Monday night. Dallas enjoyed a mini bye following its win over the Saints on Thursday. So the competitive edge has to go to the Cowboys. And the performance edge can slide that way also.
A few weeks ago fans in Dallas wanted Jason Garrett’s head on a stick. Now they are praising him for bringing the club into first place. How fickle the game is, just ask Super Bowl winning coach Mike McCarthy, who is currently unemployed. But that’s another story for another article. What the Cowboys have accomplished over the last month is completely unexpected, but it isn’t surprising. Coming off their bye, they had one of the least satisfying games of the season, losing at home to the Titans in Amari Cooper’s first game.
The current run started with a win in Philly on Nov. 11 when Ezekiel Elliott went off for 151 yards and a touchdown on 19 rush attempts. The Eagles knew what was coming and they still couldn’t stop Zeke. Dallas ranks near the bottom in total offense, passing offense and scoring, but the one thing they do well is run the football, and Elliott does that better than everybody not named Todd Gurley.
Dallas had so much success last time that they will continue to feed Zeke and he’ll continue to deliver. During the winning streak Elliott has rushed for 470 yards and three touchdowns while averaging over 5.1 yards per carry. He’s also been featured prominently in the passing game during the run with 24 of his 53 receptions coming in the last four outings. Zeke is the offense so play the over on his rushing yard total and expect him to score a touchdown at some point.
Don’t expect too much through the air from the Cowboys since they are a run-first team. If they get behind and have to play catch up, that’s the time to hit Cooper and Dak Prescott on the adjusted live betting lines at BookMaker.eu.
The Eagles may have found the running back they’ve been looking for since Jay Ajayi went down with an injury. Used sparingly since signed off the practice squad earlier in the year, Josh Adams has been a workhorse the last two games. Against the Giants two weeks ago, Adams carried 22 times for 84 yards with a touchdown. He had 20 totes on Monday for 85 yards giving him 169 rushing yards in the last two games. He had just 207 entering the Giants contest. And he’s opened up the offense for Carson Wentz, who finally found a rhythm with Golden Tate against the Skins. Tate had seven catches on seven targets for 85 yards and his first touchdown as an Eagle. But the focal point of the passing game is Zach Ertz, who set a team record for catches in a season by hauling in nine on Monday. That raised his total to 93, which is the second-highest total among all players in the NFL. Ertz has at least seven catches in a game eight times and his six touchdown grabs have all come in the red zone. Count on Ertz being targeted often on Sunday and play over his total for receptions. Also, look for him to score a touchdown when the Eagles get in the red zone on the live betting lines at BookMaker.eu.

The Eagles had gone five straight games without scoring in the first quarter until Tate found the end zone against the Skins. Still, Philly has just 28 first quarter points, which is fewer than the Cardinals have scored in the opening frame. And given the way Demarcus Lawrence and the Cowboys are playing defensively, it would be wise to play the Boys on the first quarter spread with the Eagles held under the point total.
