Now that he’s been named the starter for the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 10 Monday Night Football matchup against the New York Giants, can Nick Mullens repeat his record-setting performance from last week? Given the nod just prior to the game against Oakland, Mullens shredded the silver and black for 262 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-3 romp. Mullens was such a late add to the starting lineup that prop bets for him were not available. That changes this week, and the numbers likely do as well.

It’s not where either team wants to be or expected to be halfway through the season. The Giants are here because they have a bad football team. The Niners roster nowhere near resembles what they envisioned at the beginning of the season due to a glut of injuries. But the games will be played; there are winners and there are losers, and unfortunately for the MNF combatants they’ve been the latter far too often.
The media in New York is calling for a change at the Giants quarterback spot, but Pat Shurmur isn’t buying into it. Eli Manning is the guy, for another week at least. Poor Eli takes the brunt of the criticism for the stagnant offense, and that’s always the case. The QB gets too much glory when a team succeeds and too much blame when it struggles. Manning’s numbers are actually decent. He’s thrown for 2,377 yards completing over 68 percent of his passes. But he has only eight TDs with six picks and he’s been sacked a league-high 31 times. It’s not all his fault.
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. It’s time the Giants changed things up because it’s not like they have something to lose. The Niners are getting way too much credit for their recent defensive efforts against the Cards and Raiders where they allowed a combined 21 points.
The unit had been routinely gashed in the previous seven games and despite the Giants woeful offensive numbers they could have a big night. Eli is not fleet of foot and to avoid the sack problem he’s going to work on quick release patterns to Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley. The playmakers need to make plays and they will on Monday night.
I like Manning going over his passing yard total on a prop bet at BookMaker.eu, and since the Giants can’t run the ball, he’s going to throw a lot. He’s had at least 36 attempts in each of the last five games topping the 40 mark three times. OBJ will be the main recipient and he’ll turn at least one pass into a big-gainer where he’ll reach the end zone, making him another winner on a prop play. The Giants have playmakers on offense and they shouldn’t be as bad as they’ve been all season and that’s why I like them to exceed their projected point total on prop action.
Congratulations to Mullens for rocking Levi’s in his debut. But things change considerably now that he’s been named the starter. The Giants have game film on him and they also have a week to prepare. The Raiders didn’t have that luxury, and they also played dead allowing Mullens to have an enormous game. Mullens won’t have nearly the same success and it would be smart to fade him on any prop bet, except his rushing yards. He is mobile, he just had no reason to show off his legs against the Raiders.
One player to watch for the Niners is George Kittle, who has emerged as one of the top pass-catching tight ends in the game. Mullens doesn’t have a strong arm and he’ll lean heavily on the intermediate passing game. And that’s where Kittle comes into play. He leads the team by a lot in targets, receptions and yards and developed a quick rapport with Mullens catching his four targets for 108 yards and a touchdown against the Raiders. Kittle is a good prop play going over his receiving yard total
