The Week 6 Monday Night Football matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers looked a lot more enticing several weeks ago when Jimmy Garoppolo still had two good knees. Instead we get Jimmy G’s backup C.J. Beathard going to toe-to-toe with Aaron Rodgers as the Niners just try to stay competitive. Beathard has put numbers comparable to Garoppolo since taking over three weeks ago and he is familiar with Kyle Shanahan’s system having started five games last season. The Niners are hoping that’s enough to dent Green Bay’s suspect defense and end a three-game losing streak.
Watch this Week 6 regular season matchup live on Monday, October 15, 2018, at 8:15 p.m. ET at Lambeau Field.

San Francisco 49ers +9.5
Green Bay Packers -9.5
Over/Under 46
So much promise for a special season went down the drain a few weeks ago when Garoppolo sustained a season-ending knee injury. The Niners won’t get any sympathy from the Packers, who experienced a similar fate last season when Rodgers had his collarbone busted by Anthony Barr, essentially ending his campaign and Green Bay’s eight-year playoff run. Not every team is like the Eagles and the gap between starter and backup is usually significant. Therefore, the Packers are laying 9.5-points on the opening NFL betting line.
Beathard hasn’t been a complete flop behind center and he had impressive numbers last week against Arizona, if you take the turnovers out of the equation. Bobby’s grandkid threw for 349 yards and two scores on 34 of 54 passing. A lot of that was out of necessity since the Niners fell behind early and then lost leading rusher Matt Breida to an injury.
The Niners will be forced to throw the ball again with Breida likely out for this contest and Beathard should exceed his passing yardage total on a prop bet at BookMaker.eu. Also, if you can find a prop on interceptions thrown, go with Beathard to toss at least one since he’s been very giving with the football this season. Beathard has thrown a pair of interceptions in each of his two starts and Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has pilfered a NFL-high tying three.
When Rodgers speaks the Packers listen. And Rodgers had plenty to say after last week’s miserable effort against the Lions. The numbers looked good in Detroit with 442 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. But much of that damage was done after the Pack fell behind 24-0 at halftime, thanks to a pair of lost fumbles on strip sacks by Rodgers. With the Packers at 2-2-1 and looking more like a pretender than a contender at this juncture, a visit from the banged up Niners couldn’t have come at a better time.
Slow starts have ruined Green Bay in the early going. They were able to come back from 20-point deficit to knock off the Bears in the opener. They weren’t so lucky against Washington, falling behind 28-10 in that loss and their deficit at the break last week was their largest since Rodgers became the team’s starter.
A better start and more consistent play from Rodgers will be a point of emphasis on Monday night. Look for the Packers to have a much better first half and taking Green Bay minus the points on the first half betting line at BookMaker.eu should amount to more sheckles in your account. The Niners are near the bottom of the rankings in quarterback sacks and if they allow Rodgers time to throw the football, he’ll pick them apart. And a pissed off Rodgers with time to throw is as dangerous as it gets. Find a prop bet for Rodgers’ passing yards and take the over. And you might as well throw down on AR connecting on a scoring pass since he has at least one in every game this season and 13 straight in games he started and didn’t get injured dating back to the 2016 campaign.
