Odds Analysis

The Packers are a 4-point favorite in this game with a total of 41. There has been no movement on the total, but the side has seen bettors taking the Bears, as Green Bay opened up as a 6.5-point favorite and the number is down to 4. The Bears are 4-9 ATS this season, including 1-4 on the road, while the Packers are 8-5 ATS, including 4-3 ATS at home.

Injury Update

The Bears have good news and bad news on the injury front. They will be without linebacker Roquan Smith for the rest of the season but they could be getting defensive lineman Akiem Hicks back this week. Missing Smith is a big loss but getting Hicks into the lineup would be a huge bonus.

Matchup to Watch

If the Bears are going to win this game they have to run the ball effectively to take the pressure off of quarterback Mitch Trubisky. In the first matchup the Bears didn’t run well and had little success moving the ball, but Chicago has run the ball better of late with rookie David Montgomery and Green Bay has struggled against the run this season. Green Bay is 27th in the league against the run, allowing 4.66 yards per carry.

NFL Trends

The Bears are 5-13 ATS in the last 18 meetings in this series. The Bears are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in December. The Bears are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 vs. the NFC North. The Bears are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games on grass. The Bears are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Packers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games in December. The Packers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 vs. the NFC North.

Looking at the total, the Under is 8-1 in the Bears last 9 games as a road underdog. The Under is 6-1 in the Bears last 7 vs. the NFC North. The Under is 9-2 in the Bears last 11 games in December.

NFL Pick

The wiseguys jumped all over the opening number on this game, driving it down from 6.5 to 4, but I don’t know that I want to go against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Green Bay without getting at least a touchdown. I still don’t trust the Chicago offense and Green Bay’s defense is good. I will avoid a side and look at the total. The Chicago defense has played really well lately and Green Bay’s defense has been solid all season. There also seems to be something off with Green Bay’s offense, as this is not an explosive unit. I think this will be a low scoring game so I will go under the total.
