Week 14 in the NFL begins with an interesting contest on Thursday night, as the Dallas Cowboys visit the Chicago Bears on FOX. The Cowboys are just 6-6, but they lead the NFC East, while the Bears are almost out of playoff contention, even though they have the same record of 6-6. Chicago plays in the NFC North and they are three games behind Green Bay and not in much better shape in the Wild Card race. The Cowboys are getting a lot of respect from the oddsmakers, as they are 3-point road favorites. Let’s look at the game and NFL picks.
This NFL regular season game between the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears will be held at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois at 8:20 p.m. ET on Thursday, December 5, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on FOX.
We'll have NFL odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NFL season.
Odds Analysis
The Cowboys opened as a 3-point road favorite and the line has been pretty steady at that number. The total has seen a little bit of movement, as it opened at 42.5 and is down to 42. The Dallas offense has struggled in recent weeks and Chicago’s offense has struggled all season, so it is no surprise bettors are taking the game under the total.
Cowboys Circling the Wagons
Dallas has lost two straight and three of their last four games and have not beaten a team with a winning record this season. Despite their poor play, the Cowboys are in control of the NFC East. “We control our own destiny,” wide receiver Randall Cobb said to the media. Dallas is a poorly coached football team, but they still have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Inexplicably, the team is struggling, despite the talent. They have not forced a turnover in their last four games, the longest drought in team history.
Even though Dallas is 6-6 and a game ahead of the 5-7 Eagles, the Cowboys will need to beat Philadelphia in their upcoming meeting to win the division. The way the Cowboys have played recently is of more concern than an upcoming meeting with the Eagles. “No one’s happy,” right guard Zack Martin said to the media, “That’s for sure. I don’t think anyone is happy to be where we are sitting right now. But we are very aware that it’s right there in front us, and if we take care of business, we’ll be where we want to be. …. We’re still in control of our own destiny. It’s up to us to block out the noise and come in this week and get it done and take the first step that we need to do.”
Player to Watch
Chicago quarterback Mitch Trubisky is coming off his best game of the season, as he completed 29-of-38 for 338 yards and three TDs in a win over the Lions. “It feels good,” Trubisky said to the media, “You want to duplicate that feeling, and then you forget about it and move on and are even hungrier for this week. So we already forgot about this week. It was nice to get a win on Thanksgiving. But we play on Thursday night again — so we just have to prepare and stay mentally locked in and get after it again this week.” If Trubisky can duplicate his performance against Detroit on Thursday against the Cowboys then Chicago will have a good chance to win.
NFL Trends
The Cowboys are 21-8-1 ATS in their last 30 games on grass. The Bears are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in December. The Bears are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games. The Bears are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. the NFC.
The Under is 13-3 in Cowboys last 16 games in December. The Over is 6-2 in the Cowboys last 8 road games. The Under is 4-0 in the Bears last 4 games in December. The Under is 8-1 in the Bears last 9 home games. The Over is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings in this series.
NFL Pick
Thursday games can always be tricky, but this one sure does look like an under. The Cowboys have been completely inconsistent on offense lately and now they face a good Chicago defense and despite what the Bears did last week against Detroit they are a bad offensive team. I will go under the total on Thursday night.
