2018 49ers Offense Preview
The 49ers only gave up a second-round pick for Garoppolo and he excelled from the moment coach Kyle Shanahan put him in the game. This will be his first season as a full-time starter but San Francisco already made a huge investment, signing Garoppolo to a lucrative longterm extension.
His top receiver is expected to be the speedy Marquise Goodwin, while Pierre Garcon is a dependable veteran pass-catcher. The 49ers were aggressive in signing Jerick McKinnon this offseason, as Shanahan believes he fits perfectly in the team’s offense.
San Francisco looked very good down the stretch of 2017 but that was a small sample size. It must prove the ability to move the ball throughout all of 2018.

The 49ers made a big addition to their secondary, signing cornerback Richard Sherman after he was released from the Seahawks. Sherman is coming off a torn Achilles but is one of the best cover men in the game at his best.
It was a high-risk, high-reward type move and it will be interesting to watch Sherman early in the year. The San Francisco defensive line is its strength as the team has spent a lot of resources on that group. The 49ers haven’t been an elite defense over the past few seasons and is aiming to take a big step forward this year.

It’s a doozy of a start for San Francisco, which has to go on the road to face the Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers within their first four games. If the 49ers can manage to begin 2-2 they should be in good shape to find a good rhythm down the stretch.
A slower start could cause some consternation but it is a long season and there are softer stretches in the schedule later on. The 49ers have one of the tougher road schedules in the NFL this season so will really need to make their hay at home and try to steal a few victories in hostile confines.

The 49ers might be better this season but this win total is overboard. Garoppolo looked good last year but it was still a small sample.
