Over the last decade, the Pro Bowl has been called meaningless and obsolete, and there have been a number of changes to try to make it more interesting. In the past when salaries were much less than they are today, players relished a free trip to Hawaii as a reward for a great season. However, some players have been treating it like a burden, and they would rather have time off to rest. No matter what the perception is, we know that people will tune in to the Pro Bowl. Last year’s exhibition game drew an incredible 8.6 million viewers, so it won’t be going away any time soon with that kind of pull.
The Pro Bowl will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3 p.m. ET at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

Odds Analysis
There has yet to be a line released for this game, but don’t expect the spread to be any higher than three. This has been a very tight series over the years, and there are so many unknowns due to motivation and ever-shifting rosters. However, the total should not be too high. The Pro Bowl isn’t the high-scoring, no-defense highlight real it was at the beginning of the decade.
AFC Quarterbacks
It should be fun to watch Pat Mahomes shine one more time this season. Mahomes has been absolutely incredible to watch in his first year as a starter, and he is likely to make one or two highlight reel plays.
Mahomes put up the kind of numbers that we haven’t seen from a young quarterback since Dan Marino. He finished the year with over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns, and his ability to make things happen if a play broke down was incredible.
The other two quarterbacks taking part in this for the AFC are Philip Rivers and Deshaun Watson. Rivers had a very good season of his own. He steered the Chargers to the playoffs for the first time in five years, and he is well on his way to throwing for 60,000 passing yards over the course of his career.
Watson is making his first Pro Bowl appearance after replacing Tom Brady. He didn’t have the flashiness that we saw last year, but he could give us a show in Orlando.
NFC Quarterbacks
The only NFC quarterback that we know for sure will be participating in the Pro Bowl is Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky was selected to replace Jared Goff, and the young quarterback is champing at the bit to play. He looked much better as a sophomore than he did as a rookie under new head coach Matt Nagy, but he struggled to make his progressions if his first read wasn’t open.
The NFC’s other two quarterback spots are a little up in the air. Some reports are saying that Russell Wilson is replacing Aaron Rodgers after Rodgers opted for rest following a concussion in the season finale, while others are insisting that Rodgers will be playing.
We also don’t know the status of Drew Brees. Brees may want some time to rest and relax after the Saints’ heartbreaking loss to the Rams in the NFC Championship Game, and that is what’s keeping the line from being released just yet. If Brees decides not to play and Rodgers is out too, then the quarterback position falls off for the NFC rather quickly.
Pro Bowl Betting Preview
Keep an eye on further announcements throughout the week, as other players besides quarterbacks may decide to take the time off instead of getting a free trip to Orlando to see Mickey and Minnie. Antonio Brown has already decided to skip out on the event, and more are likely to come. Still, there could be some value in the AFC due to the QB situation of the NFC.
