Teams that are quite familiar with each other take the field on Super Wild Card Sunday. The two AFC games are divisional matchups with the NFC contest a rematch from Week 16. The defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals closed the season with eight straight wins going 7-0-1 ATS to claim the North title. After defeating the Baltimore Ravens 27-16 last week the division rivals go at it again having split the regular season series and the previous six games with the Bengals 3-0-1 ATS in the last four. The Sunday slate opens with an AFC East battle between the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins with Buffalo the biggest favorite on the Sunday betting board laying 9 points. The teams split the season series with the games decided by a total of five points.
Making their first playoff appearance in six years, the New York Giants visit the Minnesota Vikings in the afternoon window. One of Minnesota’s record one-score victories was a 27-24 decision over the G-Men in Week 16 with Greg Joseph clinching the outcome with a 61-yard field goal at the gun. The Giants limped into the playoffs going 3-5 SU in their last eight games. However, they earned payouts in their last four games going 6-1 ATS in their final seven contests. The Giants are catching 3-points on the NFL playoff betting board.
NFL Wild Card Round Betting Odds
Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills
Date and Time: Sunday, January 15, 2023, 1 p.m. ET (CBS)
Location: Highmark Stadium, Buffalo, NY
Opening NFL Odds: Bills -9, O/U 47
We’re not sure who starts at QB for the Dolphins with Tua Tagovailoa, Teddy Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson all hobbled. Though Tua has not been cleared to resume football activities yet coach Mike McDaniel hasn’t ruled him out. And Tagovailoa gives Miami its best chance at winning with the team averaging nearly 10 points more per game when he starts. Playmakers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle combined for over 3,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns but they need someone to get them the football. The teams played a pair of close games during the season with Miami getting a 21-19 home win in Week 3 and the Bills winning their sixth straight at home over the Fins with a 32-29 decision in Week 15. Buffalo has overcome adversity and its own mistakes to win seven in a row. They scored more than 30 points in each of the last three games cashing the OVER each time. Josh Allen threw for 4,283 yards with 35 TDs adding seven more scores on the ground, however he tossed 14 interceptions.
NFL Pick: Miami Dolphins +9 / UNDER 47
New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings
Date and Time: Sunday, January 15, 2023, 4:30 p.m. ET (FOX)
Location: US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
Opening NFL Odds: Vikings -3, O/U 48.5
Perhaps the most intriguing wild card matchup is a rematch from Week 16 that the Vikings won 27-24. Hurting for offense most of the season, the Giants erupted in that game with Daniel Jones having one of the best outings of his career. He threw for 334 yards and the Giants amassed 445 total yards, over 100 yards more than their season average. It was part of a frustrating closing stretch that saw the Giants lose five of their final eight games and go 1-4 in their last five road tilts. The Vikings will have to score to offset a leaky defense. And the combination of Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson has been lethal. Cousins had the fourth-most passing yards in the NFL with Jefferson leading the league in receiving yards. If it’s close the Vikings have an edge winning all 11 of their games decided by a single score.
NFL Pick: Minnesota Vikings -3 / UNDER 48.5
Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals
Date and Time: Sunday, January 15, 2023, 8:15 p.m. ET (NBC)
Location: Paycor Stadium, Cincinnati, OH
Opening NFL Odds: Bengals -7, O/U 41.5
The teams just closed the regular season last week so there are no secrets. One thing that gives the Ravens hope for an upset is the return of Lamar Jackson, who’s been out of action since sustaining a knee injury in Week 13. The offense has sputtered since then averaging just 12.5 points in the last six games. They were able to split those games thanks to a stifling defense that finished third against the run and in points allowed while placing among the top-10 in total defense. The Bengals are peaking at the right time and playing better than they did during their Super Bowl run last year. They closed the season with eight straight wins and rank among the top-8 in total offense, passing yards and points per game. Joe Burrow threw for nearly 4,500 yards with 35 touchdowns and an underrated defense allowed only 20.1 points per game.
NFL Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -7 / OVER 41.5
