One of the more popular types of wagers for bettors who test the NFL lines and spreads are teaser bets. Similar to parlays, however teasers allow you to move the spread or total by as much as six points with a minimum of two wagers. Most sportsbooks, including BookMaker.eu, allow bettors to increase their points at a price and more wagers are also accepted allowing for a higher payout on a winning ticket. In order to cash that ticket all wagers in the teaser need to win.
The most common teaser is a 2-team, 6-point bet. You can add more teams and increase your points at most shops but it isn’t always profitable so we’ll stick with the basics. We’re always looking for the best value so it makes sense to move a line across the key numbers of 3, 6 and 7.
Adding points to the spread also increases our odds so a current dog on the board is usually a better choice. Let’s look at a few Week 1 games that will win a teaser bet at BookMaker.eu.
NFL Week 1 Betting Lines
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears
Opening Line: Bears +7
Teaser Line: Bears +13
I’ll admit I was a little surprised to see the Niners as a touchdown road favorite in the opener. I know the expectations are high after a run to the NFC Championship last season, but they are turning the controls over to a second-year player with little experience. And while the decision to keep Jimmy Garoppolo around as insurance is a wise move, it has to mess with the dynamic in the clubhouse. Besides, what do we really know about Trey Lance?
The Bears aren’t getting a lot of respect after years of underachieving. The roster looks a lot different and new coach Matt Eberflus has brought a new vibe. Eberflus is a defensive guy and he has a plan to confuse Lance. Meanwhile, his own QB Justin Fields finished last season strong and had a good preseason giving Bears fans hope. Raising the spread to +13 for Chicago looks like a teaser winner to me.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys
Opening Line: Cowboys +2.5
Teaser Line: Cowboys +8.5
As I mentioned, crossing key numbers is always something to look for when teasing a line. And the points given to the Cowboys do just that giving them 8.5-points. The previous four meetings between the teams have all been one-score affairs, including last year’s opener won by the Bucs 31-29 in Tampa. And while it’s never wise to bet against Tom Brady, he is 45 and turmoil in his home life has to be on his mind.
The Cowboys will look a little different on offense with Amari Cooper gone and Michael Gallup unlikely to play due to injury. Dak Prescott had a fantastic 2021 campaign leading the Boys to 12 wins and the defense stepped up with the emergence of Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs. Prescott threw for over 400 yards and three TDs in last year’s opener and is poised for another big season. And with the Bucs dealing with injuries on the offensive line, Brady might want to rethink his retirement plans after Sunday’s tilt.
Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets
Opening Line: Ravens -7
Teaser Line: Ravens -1
Just in case former Baltimore QB Joe Flacco reaches into the wayback machine for some of his past brilliance, we gave ourselves a bit of a cushion lowering the spread from Ravens -7 to -1. There is a lot of unpredictability in the first few weeks and I actually like the Jets to be much better. However, I still think the Ravens are the better team and I would have a hard time taking them giving a touchdown on the road. Besides, if the game came down to a field goal I’d rather have Justin Tucker on my side.
Compared to last year the Ravens are in good shape entering the season. There is that contract thing with Lamar Jackson, but John Harbaugh said his QB is concentrating on playing football. And while Flacco will certainly be motivated against his former team, the Ravens are always strong defensively making the teaser line that much nicer.
