Last week’s lines gave us a hint of what was to come and the games didn’t disappoint. But we certainly did here with a bunch of losers that set us back a few sheckels. We went with the Cardinals and Chargers last week, and they were two of the four favorites that were upset. At -7 the Bolts were the biggest favorite along with New Orleans on the closing line last week. The Cards were -4.5. Seven of the 13 game had a closing spread of a field goal or less.
We nailed one of our underdog winners with the Cowboys prevailing outright as a 3.5-point pup on the road against the Falcons. It’s time to take the Saints seriously if you haven’t already. I expected the defending champs to play with more of a sense of urgency, but the Eagles were demolished in the Big Easy. Makes you wonder if Philly spent too much time on Bourbon Street the night before. Anyway, we missed horribly on that upset pick.
Undeterred we’ll move forward to Week 12, diagnosing and analyzing games for our weekly money line parlay picks.
Money Line Parlay Favorites
To improve your odds of cashing a winning money line parlay card it’s always a smart play to pick a few favorites. Going with all favored teams gives you a better a chance to win, however the payout isn’t nearly as hefty as what it would be if there were a few underdogs on the card. To increase the odds of a winning ticket and a better payout, we’re going to look at a five-team money line parlay with three favored teams and two underdogs.
The Saints taught us a lesson last week never to go against them. Lesson learned. New Orleans opened as a 12-point favorite for their NFC South battle against long-time rival Atlanta and we’ll take them as one of our favorites on this week’s money line parlay card. The Eagles were a little banged up heading into that confrontation, but i don’t think an entirely healthy squad would have made a difference against Drew Brees and Co. The Falcons have their own concerns and beating them is always a priority in Nola.
Despite handing us a loss on our parlay card last week, we’re going back to the Chargers in their home tilt against the Arizona Cardinals. Sometimes the best team doesn’t always win and that was the case for the Bolts last week. Penalties, turnovers and allowing Denver to matriculate the length of the field for the game-winning field goal put an end to LA’s six-game winning streak. For Arizona, a loss to the Raiders was about as bad it can get, and they aren’t overcoming that in a week.
Coming off their bye the New England Patriots resume action against AFC East foe New York Jets. Both teams entered the off-week after getting thoroughly whipped the week before. However, the Pats have a better chance of responding with a victory than the Jets and the oddsmakers agree, pegging Tom Brady’s group as a 9-point favorite on the opening line.
A loss in November is rare for the Pats. A 24-point setback is rarer. And after that loss came all the questions about the demise of Brady and the team. When it’s happened before, they struck back something fierce. And Brady could be getting some important pieces back after the bye with Rob Gronkowski and Rex Burkhead getting close to returning. And I’m not so sure about the Jets after they were lambasted by the Bills the last time out.
Underdog Winners
After watching the Eagles roll over in New Orleans last week, it’s hard to imagine this team has anything left. The secondary has been ravaged by injuries and Drew Brees had a monster game against it throwing for four touchdowns. And while the Eagles are licking their wounds after losses to Dallas and New Orleans, the Giants have their first winning streak in several years with some offensive firepower. The G-Men scored 65 points combined in wins over San Francisco and Tampa Bay with playmakers Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr. coming up large.
We weren’t sold on the Bengals when they started 4-1 and we are certainly not buying now that they are 5-5. They had one of the worst defensive stretches of all-time by allowing three teams to go for over 500 yards in consecutive weeks. It cost D-coordinator Teryl Austin his job and Marvin Lewis has since brought back Hue Jackson, the man who won one game in his first two years as head coach of the Browns. Jackson will get a first-hand look at his former team when the Browns come to town as a 3-point dog, and I like the Brownies new look on my money line parlay card.
