We got teased by our teaser picks again last week hitting on three of our selections to fall just shy of cashing a winning four-team ticket. It wasn’t too much to ask of the Philadelphia Eagles to show up in a game they desperately needed to win. Instead, the defending champs tip-toed through the Big Easy and left with the worst loss ever by a Super Bowl champ in its follow-up season. Just like the wildfires in California, the Saints are destroying everything that gets in their way.
It may seem like easy pickings when moving the line and spread in your favor, but it never is when wagering on a game as unpredictable as the NFL. Despite the setback, we’ll move ahead to Week 12, which includes a bonanza of games on Thanksgiving Day, and try our luck again in hopes of beating the house with our top teaser picks of the week.
Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints
Current Line: Saints -13
Teaser Line: Saints -7
We went against the Saints last week and paid the price as they handed us our only loss of the week. And the way they are playing, it’s hard to go against them again. The Falcons are in much the same situation now that the Eagles were in last week when they visited Nola, and we saw what happened. Drew Brees and the Saints are machine-like in their approach, leading the NFL in scoring while topping the 40-point mark in each of their last three games and six overall. They win when Brees throws for less than 200 yards and when allowing more than 30 points. And they’ve now won nine in a row. This likely is the last chance for the Falcons, who will begin preparing for next season with a loss, so we could expect some fireworks. But the Saints will be ready to slap another defeat on their rival and should do so by more than a touchdown.
New England Patriots at New York Jets
Current Line: Patriots -9.5
Teaser Line: Patriots -3.5
Tom Brady and the Pats typically respond well after losing a game. They are even better when that loss was of the blowout variety. Losing a November game by 24-points is a rarity for Brady and the questions started soon after. The only way to quiet the critics is to go out and thump the opponent, and the Jets are thumpable. Give Brady and Belichick time to prepare, and the return to playing shape of Rob Gronkowski will have New England ready to close the season strong. The Jets went searching for their offense during the off-week and they’re hoping they found it. They scored a total of 43 points in four games leading up the bye and could be without Sam Darnold, who remained in a walking boot early this week. It likely won’t matter who starts. Tease this line down to Pats -3.5 and I’ll take the fighting Brady’s.
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Chargers
Current Total: 44.5
Teaser Total: 38.5
The best team doesn’t always win and these two were lamenting missed opportunities last week. The Chargers have weapons on offense and Philip Rivers is enjoying one of the better seasons of his career, however the unit has been stuck in neutral for the past few games. They were dogged by penalties and turnovers that thwarted several drives against the Broncos and it ended up costing them. The same happened to the Cards, who also lost on a last-second field goal after failing to seal a drive late and giving the ball back to Oakland. The offense remains a work in progress and Josh Rosen is still learning. But the Cards did have their second-highest point total in the loss, so maybe the improvements are gradual. But it was the Raiders.
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
Current Line: Giants +6
Teaser Line: Giants +12
Break up the Giants. After not having a winning streak in a few seasons, the G-Men put the frustrations of their 1-7 start behind them with a glorious comeback win over the Niners and an offensive display that would make Joe Pisarcik proud in beating Tampa Bay. After averaging around 18 points per game in their first eight outings, the Giants scored a total of 65 in their last two and their playmakers have made the difference. After being skewered in the New York media all season, Eli Manning said enough is enough. He was 17 of 18 for 231 yards against the Bucs and has five touchdowns passes and no interceptions in the last two games. Saquon Barkley ran for 142 yards and two scores last week and Odell Beckham Jr. has three scoring grabs in the last two. The Giants are finally clicking offensively and the Eagles are a mess in the secondary. I’m going with the Giants on a teased line of +12.
