NFL Week 13 Ugly Dog Picks

Some of the best bets in the NFL each week are oftentimes wagers on teams that are considered the worst in the league. If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. We refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. We are coming off a 3-1 week and that makes us 10-4 over the last three weeks. Let’s take a look at the Week 13 Ugly Dog picks.

Week 13 Ugly Dog Picks

Let me point out one fact that you are probably already aware of. When you bet these games, you are usually better off waiting until Sunday morning to make your wagers because you will probably get a better number than what I list from earlier in the week.

Detroit Lions +7 vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Lions still don’t have a straight up win, but they came through for us last week plus the points against Chicago. They could be a viable underdog again this week, as the Vikings play close games seemingly every week. Oftentimes Minnesota will find a way to lose and it would not be a complete shock if the Lions get their first win in this game. Minnesota lost running back Dalvin Cook to injury last week and their defense continues to give up big plays. We’ll take the Lions as an ugly dog.

Chicago Bears +8 vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Bears actually look better on offense with Andy Dalton at quarterback and that should tell you all you need to know about head coach Matt Nagy, as he was going to go with rookie Justin Fields regardless, until Fields got hurt. It seems unlikely that Fields is going to return this week and that is good news if you like the Bears. The Bears are going to need to score points against an Arizona team that has an explosive offense. The Cardinals should be getting Kyler Murray back this week and Arizona figures to put up a lot of points. This one is definitely ugly, but we’ll take the Bears plus the points as an ugly dog.

Atlanta Falcons +11 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Falcons have five wins this season but if you look at the teams they have beaten it is a who’s who list of bad teams. Atlanta is not a good team and they should get run over in this game by the Bucs. The public is all over the Bucs and the oddsmakers are making Atlanta a double-digit home dog. That doesn’t happen in the NFL that often, but it is easy to understand why. The Bucs are better on both sides of the ball and they should roll. We go against the conventional wisdom and take the Falcons plus the points as an ugly dog.

Houston Texans +9 vs. Indianapolis Colts

The Texans couldn’t even handle a bad Jets team last week and now they take on the Colts. The Colts have a potent offense but Indianapolis has been finding ways to lose games. They should be able to handle this Houston team, but you never really know with Indianapolis how they are going to play. Perhaps the Texans can score enough points to stay within this number but it still looks ugly. We’ll take the Texans as an ugly dog.

New York Jets +6.5 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Jets got a win last week against Houston but New York is still a bad team. The question being asked now is whether or not the Eagles are actually a bad team. The oddsmakers still don’t think so, as they are listing Philadelphia as a TD favorite on the road. That seems a little bold considering the Eagles don’t have a quarterback who can be trusted. We’ll take the Jets as an ugly dog.

Jacksonville Jaguars +13 at Los Angeles Rams

This last game should come as no surprise, as the Jaguars are getting big points on the road at the Rams. The Jaguars got a surprising win over the Bills a while back but now are back to their losing ways, dropping three straight. There is very little to like about Jacksonville, as they are poorly coached and they have a rookie quarterback who looks in over his head. We seemingly have the Jaguars every week in this column and they have not been good to us. Regardless, we are stuck taking Jacksonville again this week as an ugly dog.
