It was a crazy week in the NFL and all the wackiness blew up our teaser picks, throwing an ohfer at us for the first time. Moving the spread or total by as many as six points in our favor is supposed to make winning easier, isn’t it? Well, that didn’t happen last week as the Jags were lathered by Derrick Henry, the Saints and Bucs couldn’t reach our teased total, and the Rams were upset by the Bears on the road. Ouch.
But just like the New England Patriots, we’ll take our loss, however heartbreaking it might be, and move on. We have a few more weeks to get it right and the Week 15 slate of games offers some intriguing matchups. We remain confident in our ability to properly tease the correct lines, and we’ll try and beat the house again with our top teaser picks of the week.
Week 15 Top Teaser Picks
Cleveland Browns at Denver Broncos
Current Line: Browns +3
Teaser Line: Browns +9
It looks as though the Broncos just ran out of gas. How else do you explain that loss to the Niners on Sunday? Faced with a difficult schedule through much of the first three-quarters of the season, this was supposed to be the easy part. We saw how that went with a disastrous loss to the 2-win 49ers, who now have three victories after the upset victory. Denver is dealing with some injury concerns and could be without Courtland Sutton after top wideout Emmanuel Sanders went down recently. Meanwhile, the Browns are on a bit of a high since they haven’t been eliminated from the playoff race and they’ve won three of their last four games. They look, and play, like a much different club since Hue Jackson was fired. Tease this line to nine points and I’ll grab the visitors on my card.
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers
Current Line: Seahawks -5
Teaser Line: Seahawks +1
Things change week to week in the NFL, but damn the Seahawks have looked good winning three in a row. After watching the Niners upset Denver last week, I doubt Seattle will be taking their division rival lightly. Besides, the Hawks are still trying to lock up a playoff spot and can do so with a win at Levi’s Stadium. And it appears as though they are using comments made by Richard Sherman as motivation. Last month when Seattle was 6-5, Sherman called the Seahawks a “middle of the road” team. Seattle has won two straight since, including a 43-16 pasting of Sherman’s Niners. Our teased line gives the Seahawks a point, and that’s too good to pass up.
Philadelphia Eagles at Los Angeles Rams
Current Total: 53.5
Teaser Total: 47.5
The Rams are coming off a game in which they failed to score a touchdown. I’m betting that doesn’t happen again. Besides, the Rams have been machine-like inside the Coliseum and the Eagles are still trying to patch a defense together. Philly surrendered 455 passing yards to Dak Prescott last week, a number that accounts for nearly 15 percent of his season total, and they allowed 576 total yards. Jared Goff and the Rams have scored a combined 36 points in their last two games, but they are back home where they racked up 54 points against KC in their last game. LA averages nearly 38 points on the Coliseum turf, so expect them to get things ironed out. We’ll happily take the over on a teased total of 47.5.
New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers
Current Line: Panthers +6
Teaser Line: Panthers +12
I said a few weeks ago after the Saints dealt us a loss that I wasn’t going to bet against them. I had a change of heart once they secured the NFC South title. The Saints are still fighting for the No. 1 seed in the conference, but checking off that first box is a huge relief and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a letdown. It happened to the Rams last week, though Chicago’s defense had something to do with the outcome. This is the last chance for the Panthers and I expect them to come out swinging as they try to end a five-game losing streak and stay alive in the playoff picture. We’ve watched these division compatriots play a number of close games in the past and I’ll take the home team with a teased line of +12.
