If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. We refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. We went 2-2 with the picks in Week 14 and that takes the season record to 34-30-1. We have six plays to look at for this week.
Let’s take a look at the NFL Week 15 Ugly Dog picks.
NFL Week 15 Ugly Dog Picks
Carolina Panthers +9 at Green Bay Packers
What has happened to the Carolina Panthers? It doesn’t seem that long ago when people were talking about the Panthers as a surprise team. The Panthers are now out of playoff contention and their defense is giving up a lot of points. The Packers appear to be the best team in the NFC and the public is not going to be going against Green Bay. The one thing that helps us in this game is that the Packers could be looking ahead to next week’s game against Tennessee. We take the Panthers as an ugly dog.
Houston Texans +7 at Indianapolis Colts
The Texans still have Deshaun Watson and J.J. Watt, but they are a bad team. They are going on the road this week to face an Indianapolis team that can’t afford a loss. It is a little surprising that the line on this game isn’t higher, as there is no reason to think the Texans are going to be competitive. Perhaps the Colts will have a letdown, but it may not matter. This one looks ugly, but we take the Texans plus the points.
Detroit Lions +10.5 at Tennessee Titans
The Lions look better under interim head coach Darrell Bevell, but Detroit is still a bad team. The Titans are a good team with a potent offense led by Derrick Henry. The one weakness for the Titans is their defense, so the Lions could definitely sneak in the back door with a cover in this game. We’ll take the Lions plus the big points as an ugly dog.
New York Jets +17 at Los Angeles Rams
It was back to our losing ways with the Jets plus the points last week, as New York was humiliated in Seattle. The odds this week are even higher, as no one gives the Jets any chance against the Rams. The Jets might actually be more competitive this week and this is a huge letdown spot for the Rams as Los Angeles has the most important game of the season next week against the Seahawks. This one is definitely ugly, but we are stuck taking the Jets plus the points.
Jacksonville Jaguars +14 at Baltimore Ravens
The Jaguars are definitely giving the Jets a run for being the worst team in the NFL this season. Jacksonville has not won since the opening week of the season. They had been pretty good against the spread until last week when they were blown out by Tennessee. This game shouldn’t be competitive, but there are a couple of things in the favor of the Jaguars. First, Gardner Minshew will get the start at quarterback and he seems to energize Jacksonville when he plays. Second, this is a huge letdown spot for the Ravens after their big win against Cleveland. We’ll take the Jaguars as an ugly dog.
Cincinnati Bengals +13 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
We finish up the plays this week with another ugly one, as we take the Bengals plus the points on Monday night. The Bengals are a bad team without Joe Burrow at quarterback and there is no reason to think they can hang with the Steelers who need to take out their frustrations on someone. The public is likely going to be all over the Steelers so that does help our cause, but it is still hard to take Cincinnati. Regardless, we take the Bengals plus the points as an ugly dog.
