For the second straight week I hit an underdog moneyline winner on my NFL parlay picks. It turns out the rest of the week wasn’t as good. Once again I continue to hit a few games, but as we know every wager on the parlay card has to win in order to cash out. I felt good about the Week 15 picks, however it was the team I least expected that bit me on the backside. After trying out this new 4-team random format I think I’ll stick with it since a winning ticket is just around the corner. Hopefully that turn comes into view soon since time is running out on the 2022 NFL season and on the playoff hopes of some teams.
I mentioned the team I least expected to dog me did last week. I felt strongly backing the Cowboys as a 4-point favorite for their matchup with Jacksonville. And it looked good well into the third quarter with the Boys building a 27-10 lead. They coughed that up and the Jags took the game to OT with a game-tying field goal at the gun. Dallas backers were still in good shape with a touchdown in OT getting the cover. Instead a Dak Prescott aerial was intercepted and returned for a score giving the Jags a 40-34 win.
The Giants were an outright winner and this one paid off on my parlay card. I backed New York at +178 on the moneyline and with help of some questionable officiating the G-Men took out Washington on Sunday night. Pittsburgh was another dog that came out ahead beating Carolina, 24-16. The Steelers allowed just 209 total yards in the game and got enough offensively from Mitchell Trubisky. For all his work it looks Mitch earned himself a spot on the bench with Kenny Pickett ready to return. And though it didn’t matter since my ticket was wasted, the high-scoring affair I envisioned between the Rams and Packers never materialized, at least not from LA’s standpoint. There was no Mayfield magic on this day with the point total regressing to the Rams season average in a 24-12 setback that came up short of the 39.5 total.
With only three weeks remaining in the regular season I’m running out of time to hit that four-team winner. At this point I’ll keep coming back until I do it or the games are completed. Let’s move to the Week 16 parlay picks.
NFL Week 16 Betting Lines
Detroit Lions -3
Washington Commanders +263 ML
Arizona Cardinals +8
Chargers/Colts U 46
Alright I’ll admit it I’m jumping on the Lions bandwagon. After watching last week’s comeback win over the Jets it’s hard not to be a fan. Jared Goff actually looks like an NFL quarterback and with playmakers around him the Lions are scoring points and winning games. After an ugly start that saw them lose five in a row at one point, the Lions reached .500 with a thrilling win over New York getting the go-ahead score with less than two minutes remaining. As long as the Lions don’t feel the pressure of a playoff race they should handle the Panthers, who are in full rebuild mode and lack a strong enough offense to do enough damage against Detroit’s below average defense.
Some will question my pick of Washington on the moneyline, hell even I’m second-guessing it now. But they came to me for a reason and I’m sticking with the team formerly known as the Redskins. The Niners will say they won’t take the foot off the gas after clinching the NFC West last week. But it happens after battling all season to get to this point and there will be some sort of letdown. Washington’s defense is on par with that of the Niners and making life difficult for Brock Purdy is a must. Let’s face it, if he is so good he would’ve been playing somewhere a lot sooner. And Washington is fighting for a playoff spot giving them added incentive.
Though they lost a fourth straight game it certainly wasn’t the fault of the defense. And the Cards are a bit unsettled at QB with Kyler Murray done and Colt McCoy likely out. That led to the spread climbing and I have no problem backing Arizona at +8 against a scuffling Bucs squad. Tom Brady is showing he’s human with several costly mistakes last week, and it’s a few weeks old now. Trace McSorley was great at Penn State and given time to prep as the starter he should perform better than last week keeping the Cards within the spread.
Until they get back on the field the Colts will be known as the team that coughed up the largest lead only to lose an NFL game. Jeff Saturday isn’t pleased and I don’t believe the Indy defense is either. That’ll be enough to make Justin Herbert uneasy keeping the score below the posted total of 46.
