Showing just how quickly things can change, I went from hitting both NFL parlays in Week 2 to nearly getting blanked on my picks in Week 3. I’ll try my hardest to return to the winning ways with a nice slate of games on tap for Week 4 of the NFL season. There are five teams still unbeaten through three weeks and all of them are on the road with three of them listed as underdogs on the opening lines at the Bitcoin Sportsbook. The most impressive of the group is Buffalo with a NFL best plus-64 point differential. Josh Allen jumped to the top of the board in the MVP futures market and takes his club to Baltimore where the Bills are catching 2.5-points on the early line.
It was a good last week for underdogs winning eight games outright with four of the teams catching at least six points on the closing line. Unfortunately I picked none of them in my three-team underdog parlay. Quarterback issues for the Chargers and Bears cost me in those games. Justin Herbert left the Pittsburgh game with an injury and the Steelers mauled the Bolts 20-10 easily covering the 2-point line. Caleb Williams may eventually be a good player but we’ll never know unless the Bears get an O-line. Aaron Rodgers tossed two TD passes to help the Jets cover the 6.5-point spread against my pick New England.
NFL Week 4 Betting Lines
Parlay Card Underdogs
Minnesota Vikings +2.5 at Packers
Jacksonville Jaguars +6.5 at Texans
Buffalo Bills +2.5 at Ravens
I’ll stick with the same format for another week to see how things play out. The Vikings look legit after knocking off contenders San Francisco and Houston in consecutive weeks as a home dog in both games. They are catching points once again in this NFC North battle with Green Bay. The Pack got a huge game from Malik Willis beating Tennessee 30-14 on Sunday but I don’t believe the good fortune will continue. The Vikings have been strong defensively allowing only 10 points per game and they lead the NFL with 16 sacks. I’ll back the visitors with 2.5-points.
Some might condemn me for backing Jacksonville +6.5, especially after their performance on Monday night. However, we saw other teams respond with wins after looking silly. Carolina comes to mind blasting the Raiders 36-22 after dropping their first two games by a combined score of 73-13. The Jags haven’t been beaten that badly and I trust them to turn it around in a game they desperately need to win.
They’re two of the top clubs in the AFC but only one has looked the part so far. The Bills improved to 3-0 with a 47-10 thumping of the Jags on Monday night with Josh Allen emerging as the MVP favorite. He’ll go against the reigning MVP Lamar Jackson on Sunday night. Baltimore sweated out a 28-25 win over Dallas on Sunday for their first and they’ve had trouble on defense allowing at least 25 points in three games. The Bills have contained Jackson picking off three of his passes while winning the past two meetings.
Parlay Card Favorites
Dallas Cowboys -4.5 at Giants
Detroit Lions -4 vs. Seahawks
I foolishly thought the Raiders would have some momentum facing Carolina in their home opener after a startling comeback win over Baltimore in Week 2. They were thoroughly trounced as a 5.5-point favorite. Thank goodness Buffalo saved me from a blank slate throttling the Jags 47-10 as a 5.5-point favorite. The way Dallas has treated the Giants and the inability of the Boys to stop teams, backing the OVER on the Thursday night game is an option. I’ll lay the points with the Cowboys, who have won six straight and 13 of the last 14 with Dak Prescott undefeated in his last 12 starts against them.
They’ve lost five in a row in the series but the Lions are a different team than now with talent and Super Bowl aspirations. Timing is everything and the Seahawks benefitted from games against Denver and New England to start the year and a broken down Dolphins team last week. We’ll see a Detroit team put on a show for a national television audience while also ending their string of losses to Seattle. And I’m betting that they do it by more than four points.
