Getting back on the winning track after a miserable last two weeks at the betting window, favorites in Week 4 of the NFL regular season were an impressive 11-3 straight up and 7-7 against the betting line through Sunday night’s game. Home moneyline favorites proved to be profitable with those teams going 8-2 straight up with Atlanta and Pittsburgh the only home chalk losing outright.
For the second time this season and the first since Week 1 we saw the over cash in a majority of the games. Nine of the 14 matchups played over the closing total with the Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers all cashing the over for the fourth time in as many games. There were no major upsets during the week with all five teams favored by at least 6.5 points winning straight up while going 3-2 ATS.

Biggest Week 4 Upsets
Cincinnati Bengals ( +3.5 ) 37, Atlanta Falcons 36
On the road as a 3.5-point dog, the Bengals pulled off the biggest stunner, knocking off the Falcons by a point on a last second touchdown pass. Andy Dalton’s scoring strike to A.J. Green with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter not only gave the Bengals the points to cover, it also gave them the +160 moneyline victory. Cincinnati improved to 3-1 ATS and maintained a share of first place in the AFC North.
Tennessee Titans ( +3 ) 26, Philadelphia Eagles 23
Break up the Titans. After back to back wins over Jacksonville and the defending champion Eagles, Tennessee should be considered a threat in the AFC that has no real dominant team. The Titans won outright last week as a 10-point dog in Jacksonville and got a game-winning touchdown pass from Marcus Mariota at the end of overtime to knock off Philly as a 3-point underdog.
The Titans gambled and it paid off in the extra session. Instead of settling for a potential game-tying field goal late in overtime, Mike Vrabel left his offense on the field for a fourth-and-2 play. They converted a third fourth-down chance on the same drive, which resulted in Mariota’s game-ending scoring pass to Corey Davis. The Titans have won three straight, all by a field goal, while playing as a dog in each contest.
Baltimore Ravens ( +3 ) 26, Pittsburgh Steelers 14
The Ravens showed that teams can still play defense. Shutting out the Steelers in the second half of Sunday night’s game, Baltimore didn’t flinch after blowing a 14-point lead and held on for the outright win as a 3-point road dog, improving to 3-1 SU and ATS. The Ravens have not allowed a second-half touchdown yet this season and they limited the NFL’s No. 2 offense to 284 total yards.
With a new-found passing game thanks to additions John Brown, Willie Snead and Michael Crabtree, along with the improved health of Joe Flacco, we can’t count the Ravens out of any game. They’ve scored at least 23 points in every outing and own the league’s fifth-best scoring offense with nearly 31 points per game.
Cover the Spread
Los Angeles Chargers 29, San Francisco 49ers ( +10 ) 27
Not many gave the Niners a chance after the loss of Jimmy Garoppolo, but they hung close to the Bolts before succumbing late. The Niners had as good a start to this game as they could ask, getting a pick-six and a C.J. Beathard scoring pass for 14-0 first quarter lead. They rallied from a 9-point deficit to reclaim the lead early in the fourth quarter only to watch the Bolts go back ahead with a field goal. The Niners had a chance late, but Beathard was intercepted sealing the defeat. They did cover the 10-point spread for their first ATS win of the season.
