Our four-team teaser from last week cashed out thanks to the Los Angeles Rams, who covered the spread after we moved the line with our teaser odds. The Rams were 7-point chalk for their road tilt in Seattle and moving the line 6-points in our favor left them at -1. They won the game 33-31 thanks to a fourth quarter field goal. Teasers allow us to move the spread or total by as much as six points with a minimum of two wagers. Most sportsbooks, including BookMaker, allow players to increase their points at a price and more wagers are accepted, which would allow for a higher payout on a winning ticket. Let’s take a look at a winning Week 6 four-team teaser bet at BookMaker.eu.
Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants
Opening Line: Giants +3
Teaser Line: Giants +9
The Eagles haven’t looked like the defending champs and they will proceed without lead back Jay Ajayi after his knee injury shelved him for the remainder of the season. Carson Wentz hasn’t been terrible since returning from his knee injury, but he hasn’t been as dynamic as he was last season and neither has the Eagles offense. They will face playmakers in Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr. on Thursday night and the Giants looked like they found a rhythm offensively last week against the Panthers.
Scoring at least 30 points for the first time since the 2015 season, the Giants were devastated when a 63-yard field goal beat them. Still, there were good signs when Barkley, OBJ and Eli Manning helped the G-Men amass 432 yards of offense. We should finally see Olivier Vernon in the lineup after missing the entire start of the season with an injury. Wentz has been sacked 12 times since returning and Vernon will give the Giants defense a boost in that area.
Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos
Opening Total: 52.5
Teaser Total: 46.5
I was leaning toward the over on the opening total anyway, but teasing the number six points in my favor makes the decision easier. The Rams can score with their eyes closed having tallied at least 33 points in every game to rank third in the NFL. They come at opponents with a balanced attack that features Todd Gurley and a ground game that churns out over 131 yards per game. Jared Goff has thrown for over 320 yards in each of the last four games and the Rams average a league-best 468.4 total yards per outing.
The Broncos couldn’t stop the Jets last week and the job will be even more difficult on Sunday. The Rams have had problems keeping teams off the scoreboard, too, allowing 31 points in each of the last two games and 85 points total in the last three contests. The Broncos have played much better at Mile High, which caused me some trepidation on the opening total. But bringing that number down and analyzing both offenses makes this an easy pick on the teaser card.
Los Angeles Chargers at Cleveland Browns
Opening Line: Pick ‘em
Teaser Line: Chargers +6
The Chargers played their best game of the season last week, stifling the Raiders and coming away with a 26-10 cover win. And it’s about this time of the season when the Bolts start playing like the contender many expect them to be. They will have to contend with Bakermania in Cleveland and the Browns have a .500 record through five weeks, which is something for them. Mayfield led the Browns to a pair of wins and a near-miss in Oakland since taking over three weeks ago.
It’s still hard to take the Browns seriously despite an impressive win over the Ravens last week. There hasn’t been a margin greater than four points in any of their games and teasing the line to Bolts +6 is a no-brainer.
Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots
Opening Line: Chiefs +3.5
Teaser Line: Chiefs +9.5
AFC heavyweights go toe-to-toe in the marquee game of the week. Patrick Mahomes has been a revelation and the Chiefs have benefitted, leading the league in scoring as the conference’s only unbeaten team. We thought KC would be challenged last week, but they easily dispatched the Jaguars with a strong defensive effort. If the Chiefs can get more of that they are easily a top contender to dethrone the Pats.
Tom Brady is tough to beat at home and he put the talk of the team’s demise behind them with a pair of New England-like victories the last two weeks. The Pats got back on track with a thumping of the Dolphins and they took care of Andrew Luck and the Colts last week. KC’s offense is powerful enough to win this game or at least stay close, and teasing the line gives us a nice cushion.
