They are favored for a reason. Teams laying points in Week 7 of the NFL regular season won nine of the 13 contests straight up through the Sunday Night Football matchup. The record against the line was much tighter with favorites posting a 7-6 ATS mark. Home dogs were particularly vulnerable this week with those teams going just 1-5 SU and ATS. The Washington Redskins were the only home underdog to get a victory, beating their NFC East rival Dallas outright 20-17 as a 2-point home pup.
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to line the pockets of their backers by improving to 7-0 ATS with another convincing win, dominating the Bengals 45-10 as 6.5-point chalk. For the first time this season a majority of games played below the closing total giving under bettors a breakthrough at the betting window. Nine of the 13 games cashed the under breaking a streak of three consecutive weeks where the over was the profitable play. Three games had a closing total of at least 51 and all three cashed the under.

Biggest Week 7 Upsets
Carolina Panthers ( +5 ) 21, Philadelphia Eagles 17
The defending champs continue to struggle and blowing a 17-point fourth quarter lead to Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers isn’t going to help their psyche. Carolina posted the biggest comeback victory in team history by scoring three touchdowns over the final 10 ½ minutes and making plays down that stretch that the Eagles did most of last season when they rolled to their first Super Bowl title. Things are a little different this season.
After their dismantling of the Giants the week before, the Eagles were getting plenty of love from the betting public, pushing the line to its closing total from an opening of -3.5. Nothing is going to come easy and the Eagles should know that. They pitched a shutout through three-plus quarters and seemingly had this game in hand. Until they didn’t. Carolina converted a fourth-and-10 before Newton hit Gregg Olsen with 82 seconds remaining for the game-winning score. Julius Peppers then strip-sacked Carson Wentz on fourth down with Philly at the Panthers 14.
Houston Texans ( +3.5 ) 20, Jacksonville Jaguars 7
For the second straight week the Jags pop up on this list and that’s not a good thing. Jacksonville was humbled as a field-goal favorite in Dallas last week and many thought the worst might be over. But it’s far from that. The offense is AWOL and the once proud defense, though it was better against the Texans, wasn’t good enough. With their fourth straight win the Texans have taken over first-place in the AFC South after the other top teams all lost again.
Houston is still a wreck against the spread, covering for only the second time in their outings. But they are winning, unlike the other division members. And their defense is looking like the fearsome group most expected. Blake Bortles was replaced in the second half and the offense continued to sputter. The Jags have scored four touchdowns in their last three games and they’re averaged fewer than 17 points per game.
Biggest Week 7 Spreads
People in Kansas City may debate whether the Rams are the best team in the league. But the Rams record says they are after they stayed perfect with a complete thrashing of the Niners on Sunday. The talk all season has been about L.A.’s offense, and why not considering they are a machine with Todd Gurley and Jared Goff leading the way. Aaron Donald and the defense wanted a part of the action and they got into it in a big way. Donald had four of the Rams seven sacks and one of their four takeaways in a dominant performance. Somehow the line for this game fell from the Rams -10 to the closing -8. The Rams ended their three-game losing skid against the line and improved to 4-3 ATS as a favorite of at least 6.5-points in every game.
For the first time this season the Colts played as a favorite and they shined in blasting the Bills. It certainly helped that Buffalo started a quarterback they just signed earlier in the week, which helped the line close at Colts -7. After giving up 117 points in the previous three games, the Colts defense didn’t allow a touchdown while compiling 220 yards on the ground. They played a bad Bills team, as evidenced by the spread, but the Colts took care of business.
