Are you ready for another week of ugly dog picks in the NFL? It was a light week last week with just two plays, as we went 1-1 to bring the season mark to 15-9-1 ATS through the first six weeks of the season. Some of the best bets in the NFL each week are oftentimes wagers on teams that are considered the worst in the league. If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. We refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. We had just two plays last week, but this week we have a bunch of action with five games.
Let’s look at the NFL Week 7 Ugly Dog picks.
Week 7 Ugly Dog Picks
Let me point out one fact that you are probably already aware of. When you bet these games, you are usually better off waiting until Sunday morning to make your wagers because you will probably get a better number than what I list from earlier in the week.
Houston Texans +7 at Las Vegas Raiders
If you look at the standings you’ll see that the Texans actually have the better record so this is a rarity in ugly dog plays, as we take Houston. The Raiders haven’t looked that bad; they just haven’t been able to pull games out in the fourth quarter. Conversely, the Texans have looked bad in pretty much every game this season. The Raiders should win this game going away and that is why it is ugly to take the Texans, but that is what this column is all about. We take the Texans plus the points as an ugly dog.
Detroit Lions +7 at Dallas Cowboys
The Lions have just two wins this season but at least they are able to score points. The problem for Detroit is that they can’t stop anyone. It doesn’t figure to be easy this week against a Dallas team that is expected to get Dak Prescott back into the lineup. The Lions can’t win defensive struggles, so their only chance is to win a shootout and that doesn’t happen very often. We’ll take the Lions as an ugly dog.

Washington Commanders +5 vs. Green Bay Packers
I don’t care that the Commanders got a win last week against another bad team in Chicago, Washington is still a rotten team that is poorly coached. This week they are taking on another team that is struggling in the Packers. Green Bay is coming off a humiliating loss last week to the Jets and Aaron Rodgers is sounding off. This should be a game where the Packers get things right, as this is not a good Washington team and now the Commanders are starting a backup quarterback in Taylor Heinicke. We’ll take the Commanders as an ugly dog.
Carolina Panthers +10.5 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Is there an uglier team in the NFL right now than the Carolina Panthers? The Panthers are 1-5 and as I said last week, the coaching change may not help, as Wilks didn’t do that well in his first head coaching try. Carolina is now shopping Christian McCaffrey and that should tell you everything. This Carolina team is likely going to be in this column on a regular basis and that is really not good news for us because the Panthers are bad. We’ll take the Panthers as an ugly dog.
Chicago Bears +9 at New England Patriots
Another bad team is the Chicago Bears, as they come into this game at 2-4 and they could easily be winless. Justin Fields does not look like a starting NFL quarterback and new head coach Matt Eberflus appears to be in over his head. On the other side, the Patriots have managed to get to .500 with a third string quarterback in Bailey Zappe who has looked better than starter Mac Jones and backup Brian Hoyer. The public wants nothing to do with the Bears and who can blame them. This is another ugly one, as we take the Bears plus the points.
