Are you ready for another week of ugly dog picks in the NFL? We are off to a sizzling start this season, and it was a 3-2 ATS record last week to bring the season mark to 18-11-1 ATS. Some of the best bets in the NFL each week are oftentimes wagers on teams that are considered the worst in the league. If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. We refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. We had five plays last week and we have another five games to look at for this week. Let’s look at the NFL Week 8 Ugly Dog picks.
Let’s look at the NFL Week 8 Ugly Dog picks.
Week 8 Ugly Dog Picks
Let me point out one fact that you are probably already aware of. When you bet these games, you are usually better off waiting until Sunday morning to make your wagers because you will probably get a better number than what I list from earlier in the week.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2 vs. Baltimore Ravens
Did you ever think you would see the Buccaneers in this column? The Bucs looked as ugly as any team in the NFL last week as they lost to the lowly Panthers. There is no doubt that the Bucs are not a Super Bowl contender, as Todd Bowles is not a good head coach and Tom Brady should have stayed retired. That doesn’t mean the Bucs won’t make the playoffs, as the NFC South is awful. It also doesn’t mean the Bucs can’t turn it around this week. The Ravens seem to play a couple of good quarters and then try and find ways to blow their lead. We’ll take the Bucs as the first ugly dog of the week.
Pittsburgh Steelers +10 at Philadelphia Eagles
The Steelers are going through growing pains with Kenny Pickett as their starting quarterback and they simply haven’t been able to win without T.J. Watt carrying the defense. It sure won’t be easy this week against the league’s only unbeaten team, the Eagles. This is kind of a rivalry game with both teams being from Pennsylvania, but how much stock the players put into that is questionable. The Steelers are capable of playing with emotion, so this game might be more interesting than people think. We’ll take the Steelers as an ugly dog.

Detroit Lions +3 vs. Miami Dolphins
The Lions are going nowhere once again this season, as they have problems on both sides of the ball. Head coach Dan Campbell can’t seem to find answers for this team and quarterback Jared Goff continues to turn the ball over. The Dolphins looked better last week as Tua returned and there is no reason they won’t continue to play well this week. The Lions looked like a team that could compete earlier this season but right now they look overmatched. This one is ugly, but we take the Lions plus the points as an ugly dog.
Houston Texans +1.5 vs. Tennessee Titans
I have to say that this line amazes me. The Texans are in last place and have just one win on the season and they are playing the first place Titans and yet Houston is getting just 1.5 points. This seems like an oddsmakers trap game as they look to get people to bet on Tennessee. There is no real reason to like the Texans, even at home and yet the line is almost a pick. The Texans are still ugly and they are getting points, so we take them as an ugly dog.
Cleveland Browns +3.5 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The season is quickly slipping away from the Cleveland Browns, as they have just two wins on the season and now they host a Bengals team that is rolling. The line has moved toward Cincinnati and why not? The Browns are not getting good enough play on either side of the ball but it is not all Jacoby Brissett’s fault. The Browns look ugly right now and that is the point as we take the Browns plus the points as an ugly dog.
