A crucial showdown in the NFC North takes place in the Week 14 edition of Thursday Night Football when the Green Bay Packers visit the first place Detroit Lions. Detroit stretched its winning streak to 10 in a row while improving to 11-1 overall beating Chicago on Thanksgiving. They are tied with Kansas City for the best record in the NFL. However, teams in the competitive division aren’t allowing the Lions to run away with anything. The Packers remained just two games back knocking off Miami on Turkey Day for their third straight win. Green Bay’s only loss in its last eight contests was to Detroit in Week 9 when the Lions covered the 2.5-point spread in a 24-14 win. The early line is slightly larger with Detroit laying 5-points at the Crypto Sportsbook.

Two high-scoring teams will tangle and oddsmakers have set the total accordingly. The Lions lead the NFL in scoring averaging 31.9 points and topped the half century mark twice in their last three home games. However, those games were against teams not as proficient at stopping opponents as the Packers are. In Week 8 the Lions beat Tennessee, 52-14, and three weeks later hammered Jacksonville 52-6. The Jags are next to last in scoring defense while the Titans entered their Week 13 game at No. 27.
With Jordan Love throwing four touchdown passes and zero interceptions the last two games the Packers reached the 30-point plateau both times. They did that just three times in their first 10 games. The Pack displayed a balanced attack in last week’s win over Miami. Four players rushed for at least 20 yards led by Josh Jacobs, who tallied 43 yards and a TD. Jacobs also had 74 yards on four pass receptions amassing more than 100 scrimmage yards for a fifth straight game.
And you can expect the Packers to be aggressive on offense against a thinned out Lions defense. Already without Aidan Hutchinson, the team saw Malcolm Rodriguez go down with a knee injury in the Bears game and Josh Paschal is unlikely to play due to a leg injury sustained in the same game. The Lions boast one of the best defenses in the NFL holding nine opponents to 20 points or less this season to rank third in scoring defense.
Turnovers always play a significant role in the outcome of games and the Packers thrive on creating them. They’ve had multiple takeaways eight times this season going 6-2 in those games. They failed to force a turnover in the Week 9 meeting and the Lions earned a 24-14 victory. With the exception of one game, that’s been the theme for Detroit. Nine of their 11 giveaways are Goff interceptions and five of those came in one game.
Goff tossed five picks in the Week 10 game against Houston, and the Lions still won, overcoming a 23-7 halftime deficit. That was one of several close games the Lions were victorious in. They are 5-1 in one-score games, including Thursday’s nail-biter with the Bears. The team has the ability to adapt and prevail depending on how games pan out. They can definitely win shootouts with the NFL’s highest scoring offense. They can also win defensive battles with a defense that surrenders 16.9 points per game.
The Lions have also had the better of the series winning five of the previous six matchups and going 5-2 ATS. The NFC North has been one of the most competitive divisions for several years and the Lions have beaten up their rivals winning five straight overall and eight of the last nine home games against division foes.
