NFL Preseason Week 2 Betting Odds
Baltimore Ravens -6
Arizona Cardinals +6
Total 38.5
Odds Analysis
The public is all over the Ravens in this contest and it is hard to argue. All Baltimore does is win in the preseason under head coach John Harbaugh. This number opened up at 3.5 and is up to 6 and likely to go higher. No one wants to get in front of the Ravens freight train in the preseason and how much confidence can you have in the Cardinals when neither of their top two quarterbacks are going to play?
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are getting a lot of respect from the oddsmakers because of Harbaugh’s success in the preseason but there are some concerns in this game. It is unlikely Lamar Jackson will play so that means Tyler Huntley and Anthony Brown will get the bulk of the playing time. Both quarterbacks looked good last week, but that was at home. It could be more difficult for them on the road in front of a hostile crowd.
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals are not going to play Kyler Murray in the preseason and it doesn’t look like backup Colt McCoy is going to play in this one, as he has been dealing with some arm soreness. That means third-string quarterback Trace McSorley will get the start. He has some added incentive in this game, as he will be facing his former team. “We’re excited to watch Trace,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said to the media, “Obviously being his former team, he’ll be keyed up and that one and it should be a fun evening.”
Ravens vs. Cardinals Free Pick
It is important to keep in mind that the Ravens could win this game and keep their streak of winning in the preseason under Harbaugh going and not cover the spread. Laying a touchdown in preseason is a risky proposition and this game is on the road. The Ravens may have a small edge in quarterbacking in this game, but it is definitely not a big edge, as McSorley isn’t that much worse than Huntley or Brown and McSorley will be highly motivated to win this game going against his former team. It has been said that you don’t go against a streak but you ride it out until it ends. I definitely can’t argue with that logic and if you want to lay the points with Baltimore, I can’t really go against that pick, but I am leery, as I don’t like laying points on the road in the preseason, and definitely not a TD. Perhaps the Ravens will do enough to win and cover this game, but I am going to pass and look at the total.
The Ravens are not going to do anything fancy with Lamar Jackson out of the lineup and the Cardinals are sure not going to feature many exotic plays with both of their top two quarterbacks out. I’ll take this game under the total.
