Super Bowl 53 Predictions – NFL Futures Props

The playoff field is set and the updated Super Bowl LIII odds have been released at BookMaker.eu. Not surprising, the New Orleans Saints at +200 remain the favorite after holding down the top spot for the past several weeks. And it’s also not much of a surprise to see the two best teams from each conference holding down the top four slots. Having a first-round bye doesn’t guarantee a path to the Super Bowl, but it makes the road a lot less treacherous and that’s why the Saints and Kansas City Chiefs are top two favorites.

It took them longer than they would have liked, but the Chiefs finally secured the top seed in the AFC with a win over the Raiders on the final Sunday of the regular season. The Patriots got greased for a playoff run by smothering the Jets to earn a first-round bye. And after a few tense weeks, the Rams got a pass to the Divisional Round with a win over the 49ers. Dallas closed the regular season with seven wins in eight games and will host Seattle on Wild Card Weekend, yet the Cowboys have the longest odds on the board at +8000.

Here’s a look at the current Super Bowl LIII odds at BookMaker.eu heading into the opening weekend of the postseason.

Kansas City Chiefs +300

New England Patriots +450

Los Angeles Rams +500

Houston Texans +1900

Indianapolis Colts +2000

Los Angeles Chargers +2500

Chicago Bears +3500

Baltimore Ravens +4500

Seattle Seahawks +5500

Philadelphia Eagles +6500

Dallas Cowboys +8000

Securing home field advantage for the playoffs doesn’t guarantee anything but it sure is better to have it. That holds true for the Saints, who have been monsters in the Superdome. Sure they lost at home on Sunday to the Panthers and a third-string quarterback, but can you blame them? The Saints had the No. 1 seed and rested Drew Brees, so the outcome wasn’t that much of a surprise.

The AFC crown goes through Kansas City and the Chiefs are hoping to exorcise some recent playoff demons. They dropped a tough one last season at home to Tennessee in the Wild Card round and they are just 1-10 since reaching the AFC Championship following the 1993 season. They didn’t have Patrick Mahomes behind center last year and the league’s probable MVP could be the difference maker.

We saw the top teams from each conference advance to the Super Bowl last season with New England and Philadelphia taking care of business on their home turf. The Pats used the home field edge to overcome a fourth quarter deficit against Jacksonville and the Eagles had the home crowd backing Nick Foles and his improbable run to Super Bowl MVP. The Pats again locked down a first-round bye but they will have to travel if they are to make another Super Bowl appearance.

The Eagles snuck into the playoffs and have a chance to defend their title. Philly needed to beat the Redskins and have Chicago win in Minnesota to qualify, and that happened. Now the Eagles get to thank the Bears personally by visiting the Windy City for a Wild Card game on Sunday. If you believe in the magic of Foles, the Eagles can be bought at +6500.

Having experienced a postseason run last year should help Philly against the Bears, but you have to like what Matt Nagy’s done in his first season. And Chicago’s defense is smothering. The only concern with the Bears is if they can generate enough offense. Their odds are long at +3500, but if defense wins championships, they are a good purchase.

It’s not uncommon to see a wild card team reach the Super Bowl. It’s happened nine times since the Wild Card Round was introduced in 1978 and six times that team won the title. The Packers were the last to do it in the 2010 season, winning three games on the road before tripping up the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. However, winning three times on the road just to get to the Super Bowl is a chore. Oddsmakers listed the Colts at +2000 as the favorite among the four wild card entries with the Chargers ( +2500 ), Seahawks ( +5500 ) and Eagles ( +6500 ) next in line.
