Last week, I broke the underachievers down that were expected to make noise at the online sportsbook, but have grossly failed to live up to expectations heading into the Week 7 NFL betting slate. Included in the mix were Tampa Bay, San Francisco, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Miami, Las Vegas, and Denver. Of those seven teams, only the Raiders and Dolphins saw their odds to win Super Bowl LVII get shorter due to coming up with a Week 8 win. The 49ers did so only because of bringing Christian McCaffrey in from Carolina.
This week, I’m taking a look at overlooked teams not expected to make noise but have gone on to stir the pot regardless. Do any of these teams have what it takes to see it all the way through? In other words, are we confidently adding any of these teams to the futures portfolio? Let’s dig in and find out!

Philadelphia Eagles +500
Hitting the board as near 20-1 choices, the Eagles are now the running +190 favorite to win the NFC and sit only behind the Buffalo Bills on the odds to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. With the addition of A.J. Brown paired with the improvements on the defensive side of the ball, Philly should’ve been a shoe-in by many to drastically improve upon last year’s wild card exit; especially running up against what was expected to be the second easiest schedule strength per Sharp Football Analysis. The Eagles don’t oppose another winning team until Week 13, and it remains to be seen if the overachieving Titans still possess a winning record by then. Nick Sirianni’s squad waltzes its way to the No. 1 seed if it plays its cards right!
Minnesota Vikings +1504
The Vikings lost nine regular season games a season ago with seven coming by a possession or less. That let it be known the talent was there. The execution wasn’t. As such, upper management made the move to clean house and bring in an entirely new coaching staff. So far it’s paid off with the Vikings perched comfortably atop the NFC North and -833 chalk to see it all the way through. It’s odds to win it all have moved from +3450 to +1504. NFL bettors get to see if this team is for real or not over the next six weeks with games set to go against Arizona, @Washington, @Buffalo, Dallas, New England, and the Jets. I need to see more against top-tiered opposition before buying in.
Dallas Cowboys +1700
So what are we to make of the Cowboys now that Dak Prescott is back under center so the defense no longer has to shoulder the heavy load? I’ll admit, I didn’t have high expectations for Dallas heading into the regular season, and backed that sentiment up by hitting the under of their 10-game season wins total. That wager isn’t looking too good right now with the Cowboys somehow managing a 4-2 record with Cooper Rush filling in as the QB1. This team is scary moving forward! If the offense can give the defense the relief it needs the rest of the way, we could be looking at a bona fide Super Bowl contender. I can’t believe I’m saying that about a McCarthy coached team, but I’m buying!
New York Giants +4800
I’ve loved every second of the Giants rise from the ashes! I was extremely bullish on the GMEN way before the season kicked off and hit the over of their laughable 7.5-game wins total, bet them to win the NFC East, and even invested in Brian Daboll winning the Coach of the Year Award. While it was a tremendous leap of faith, it had everything to do with the new head coach. I admired the way he went about his business in Buffalo and knew he’d whip the team into shape in no time. I mean come on; Daniel Jones is all of a sudden a viable QB1! Now whether all the good fortune continues remains to be seen. What I do know is that NY is the beneficiary of one of if not the league’s easiest schedule strengths. They should have no issue continuing to take full advantage of it provided the injury bug doesn’t take out any key components.
Seattle Seahawks +6000
So it looks like John Schneider knew exactly what he was doing by shipping Russell Wilson to Denver and getting a king’s ransom back for his services. Early returns from the trade came in the form of OT Charles Cross and EDGE rusher Boye Mafa with each already playing huge roles in the early success on both sides of the ball. And what about the rejuvenated career of Geno Smith who’s been nothing if not a godsend for the offense?! Rashaad Penny goes down - no worries, we’ll just plug Kenneth Walker III into the backfield. Everything is coming up roses right now which has me waiting for the other shoe to drop. The transformation into a division leader has been way too quick; especially with all the youth making it happen. I don’t envision this lasting much longer, but it would continue being a pretty cool story if it did.
New York Jets +7500
If the Giants and Jets weren’t playing as well as they are, New York would be an extremely depressing place to live with both the Mets and Yankees letting their respective fan bases down in a major way. Be that as it may, Robert Saleh has got the Jets playing an inspired brand of football that’s allowed for it to at least be in the conversation of snagging a wild card invite to the postseason come January. Unfortunately, the feel-good story was forced to swallow a bitter pill last week when stud rookie RB Breece Hall was lost for the season. It remains to be seen if the newly acquired James Robinson can turn those frowns into smiles. Regardless, this franchise is on the up-and-up and I’m loving every second of it needing just two more wins to cash that over six wins ticket in!
