The first week of the 2022-23 NFL betting season is in the books. All 32 teams now have at least one game under the belt, and there’s been a bevy of line movement that’s occurred with the betting public already jumping to conclusions. Welcome to “Overreaction Week” otherwise known in the industry as Week 2. The odds have been bouncing all over the place because of it even though NFL bettors only have a single game’s worth of information made readily available to draw conclusions from. Let’s dig into the current offerings and see how the lay of the land changed. Be sure to check back every week with my updated breakdown of the Super Bowl LVII futures odds market.

Josh Allen and Co. still Rule the Roost
The Buffalo Bills went into last Thursday night’s season opener in Tinseltown odds-on favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. After smashing the reigning champs 31-10 by running away and hiding in the second half, The Fightn’ McDermott’s odds of winning it all shortened up from +582 to +475. Their odds are likely to get even shorter following this week’s game against Tennessee whom they’re currently favored to beat by 10-points. Value could however return the following two weeks with road games schedule for Miami and Baltimore.
Stinky Cheddar
The Green Bay Packers saw their odds of winning the Super Bowl fatten up from +919 to +1386 after getting their collective salad tossed in the Twin Cities by the Minnesota Vikings. But before you jump at the chance of continuing to fade this squad moving forward, just know Aaron Rodgers and his mates got their clocks cleaned in Week 1 of last season before claiming the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
Mining for Gold
Are the San Francisco 49ers offering up a golden ticket right now? I think so! Falling 19-10 to the Chicago Bears as touchdown favorites now finds Kyle Shanahan’s squad listed as better than 21-1 choices to win it all. Take about an overreaction! That loss was incurred in the middle of an unforgiving monsoon with a rookie quarterback under center for the first time in a season opener. San Fran takes on what’s expected to be one of the easier schedule strengths in the league. In short, the Niners are a major buy at +2153 with Seattle, @Denver, Rams, @Carolina, and @Atlanta on the docket before a Week 7 heavyweight matchup at home against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Dallas, We Gotta Problem
I expected the Cowboys to play third fiddle to the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants within the NFC East heading into the regular season. You can now add the Washington Commanders to the list with Dak Prescott out for what’s hoped to only be four weeks after needing surgery to repair an injured thumb. After winning the division last year, the Cowboys fall from grace has occurred much quicker than expected. Even at 53-1, keep this train wreck of a team away from your futures odds portfolio – far, far away!
Pop That Cherry!
The Vikings have never once experienced the thrill of winning it all. They’ve gotten to the dance four times, but never saw it all the way through. With their odds of finally breaking through getting cut in half after sending Green Bay packing, the betting market looks to be bullish on Kevin O’Connell’s troops breaking through. Before pounding seconds and thirds of the purple Kool-Aid, let’s first see how the team deals with the Philadelphia Eagles in front of a nationally televised audience.
Buy a New Hoodie!
How wretched did the Patriots look in that one-sided 20-7 smearing at the hands of the division rival Dolphins? Though New England qualified for the postseason a year ago, it quickly got bounced by the Bills in embarrassing fashion. This franchise simply just doesn’t feel the same with “The Goat” now holding the fort down in Tampa Bay. My brain simply can’t comprehend seeing +7500 next to New England, but it is what it is.
Arrow Up, Arrow Down
Entering Week 2, the betting markets are bullish on the Bills, Bucs, Chiefs, Ravens, Eagles, Vikings, Dolphins, Commanders, and Giants on the Super Bowl LVII futures odds. Notable teams the market is bearish on include the Packers, Rams, 49ers, Broncos, Bengals, Colts, Cowboys, Raiders, Cardinals, Titans, Patriots, and Steelers.
