Super Bowl LIII MVP Betting Odds - NFL Online Props

The Super Bowl is the biggest spectacle in sports and much like the game has evolved over the years, so has the ability to gamble on it. Prop bets are a fun way to stay engaged even if you don’t have a horse in the race. The amount of money wagered on the Super Bowl isn’t counted in millions rather it’s counted in billions. And the prop bets have plenty to do with that, giving folks all kinds of opportunities to wager on something other than the spread and total.

It’s going to be a wild two weeks leading up to Super Bowl LIII with prop bets rolling in until kickoff. Available wagers from the color of Gatorade the winning coach gets doused with to the over/under on the length of the National Anthem, performed in Atlanta by “Empress of Soul” Gladys Knight. Not to worry, though, if you’re looking to drop a little coin on the game itself BookMaker.eu has opened odds on the MVP with – surprise! – Tom Brady the frontrunner to win the award yet again.

Brady has won the Super Bowl MVP award a record four times and it’s obvious that oddsmakers expect one of the two quarterbacks to win MVP. And it’s not a surprise since QB’s have won the honor 29 times. In fact, only two non-QBs have won Super Bowl MVP since the 2010 season and both were defensive players – Seattle’s Malcolm Smith in 2013 and Denver’s Von Miller in 2015.

Don't miss Super Bowl LIII from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia at 6:30 p.m. ET on February 4, 2018. Catch every moment of the game live on NBC.

Recent history tells us that an offensive player will win the award, and that player will be from the victorious squad. Chuck Howley was the only player to win MVP from a losing team. Howley’s Dallas Cowboys fell in Super Bowl V in a game that featured little offense. His two interceptions gave his team a chance to win and without significant numbers from any players on the other side of the football in a lackluster 16-13 Baltimore Colts’ victory, he was also the first defensive player to win the honor.

It’s a quarterback driven game and Brady has excelled on the biggest stage. He failed to deliver a win last year, but he set a Super Bowl record with 505 passing yards, breaking the record he set in the previous season. And we’ve seen a quarterback win the award in nine of the past 12 games.

In eight career Super Bowls, Brady has thrown for 2,576 yards with 18 touchdowns. The odds are long, but it’s hard to deny that he’s the favorite. If you like Brady to add to his record total of MVP awards you might as well piggyback that with a wager on the Pats since we haven’t seen a losing team player capture the honor in 48 years.

The Rams lack the Big Game experience of their AFC counterparts, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have the talent to win the team’s first title while based in Los Angeles. Jared Goff won his first playoff game as a starter in the Divisional Round and Todd Gurley was putting together another monster season until an injury shelved him late in the regular season. Goff had another strong year but fizzled down the stretch. He is the second favorite on the odds board and won’t be fazed by the surroundings.

Gurley is an intriguing player on the list. At +1500, his odds may have tumbled after he sat most of the championship game. He totaled just 13 yards on five touches, leading many to wonder if the knee issues have persisted. The Rams deny that was a factor and Gurley said he was “sorry as hell” after early miscues put him on the sideline. Gurley ran for 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns during the regular season while compiling 1,831 yards from scrimmage.

The favorite among defensive players is Aaron Donald, who came in at +1500. It’s a chore since players on that side of the football don’t accumulate the stats, but if anybody can do it, Donald can. He was double-teamed by the Saints nearly the entire game and taken off the stat sheet. And you can expect the Pats to do something similar. But Donald has a way of making big plays and he could be the first defensive lineman since Richard Dent in Super Bowl XX to win MVP.

Another value pick at +1500 is Pats rookie Sony Michel. He has tallied back-to-back 100-yard rushing games along with five touchdowns. James White made a push for MVP two years ago before losing out to Brady and is +2000 on the board.
