The Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots were favored to win Super Bowl 53 when the odds first hit the board at BookMaker.eu. And through the first three weeks of the season those two clubs remain at the top of the odds board, though the Rams have pushed ahead as the clear cut favorite at +400 while the Pats slipped to +800.
The Rams went all in during the offseason, adding some Pro Bowl defensive pieces to complement their high scoring offense. So far so good for the Los Angelinos, who improved to 3-0 with another convincing win, this one 35-23 over area rival and AFC contender the Chargers. We’re only three weeks into the 2018 campaign and things will continue to be fluid as the season moves along, but the Rams certainly look like the team to beat.
History tells us that teams opening a season at 0-3 have a slim chance of making the postseason, let alone winning the Super Bowl. It’s time to fade the Raiders, Texans and Cardinals. The San Francisco 49ers were a trendy pick at the beginning of the season with Jimmy Garoppolo running the show for a full year, but there was a seismic shift in the Niners odds when Jimmy G was lost for the season. They tumbled to +8000 and are now hanging out with the Colts and Browns near the bottom of the odds board.
Here are the current odds after Week 3 of the 2018 NFL regular season.

The Rams enjoyed remarkably good health last season, but their depth is about to get tested. One of their big offseason acquisitions, cornerback Aqib Talib, is expected to miss several weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in last week’s game, and the other big addition, Marcus Peters, is dealing with a calf issue. If you’re looking to place a futures bet on the Rams at BookMaker.eu, it might be wise to hold off. With injuries and a schedule that features the Vikings in Week 4, along with the Packers, Chiefs Saints and Eagles down the road, there is a better price to be had should the Rams stumble.
It was about this time last year we were putting an end to the Patriots dynasty. They split their first four games and the defense was a no-show. But the Pats showed us why they are the Pats, winning 11 of their last 12 regular season games and advancing through the playoffs and into yet another Super Bowl. The Pats are no strangers to early season losses, but there is something going on with them. They lacked urgency and focus in their 26-10 loss to the Lions, and with back-to-back double-digit defeats, they fell to +800 on the odds board. We’ve seen the Pats respond in years past and Tom Brady isn’t going down without a fight. The Pats can straighten things out with a win over AFC East-leading Miami in Week 4.
Only one other team is pegged with odds of better than +1100 on the current table and that’s the Kansas City Chiefs, who are right behind the Pats at +900. The video game offense is rolling behind joystick controller Patrick Mahomes, but it’s tough to back a second-year quarterback who had just one career start before this season. And the Chiefs defense has been horrendous in the early going. The league will catch up with Mahomes and the Chiefs will experience some tough times, giving them a better price at BookMaker.eu later in the season.
There are a number of quality teams to be had a good price at this point in the season. The Chargers have proven to be a second half team, and when they get Joey Bosa back in the lineup they could make a move. At +2500 at BookMaker.eu, the Bolts are ripe. Carolina and Baltimore are both +2800 and they’ve played well in the early season.
