Week 14 Ugly Dog Picks

Week 14 Ugly Dog Picks

If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. I refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. We went 3-1 last week to take the overall record for the season to 30-18-1. There are three plays for this week, so let’s take a look at the Week 14 Ugly Dog picks.

Week 14 Ugly Dog Picks

Washington Redskins +13 at Green Bay Packers

The Redskins got a win last week against Carolina and came through for us as an ugly dog. We are back on them again this week and it is another ugly spot, as they visit the Packers at Lambeau. The Redskins still don’t have a quality starting quarterback, as Dwayne Haskins is in way over his head, but Washington can run the ball. If opposing teams start to stack the box against Guice and Peterson it will be game over for Washington because Haskins hasn’t shown he can throw the ball effectively. Our lone loss last week was going against Green Bay, so there is definitely a risk going against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. The one thing that might help us in this one is that the Packers are in a letdown spot. They have the Bears up next week and then face the Vikings, so this game will look like an easy one for Green Bay. It may not matter, as Washington is still a bad team, but that is the point for us with these picks. We’ll take the Redskins as an ugly dog.

Detroit Lions +13 at Minnesota Vikings

The Lions looked better last week with David Blough at quarterback, but they still lost to Chicago. Now they head into Minnesota to face a Vikings team coming off a loss to Seattle. The Vikings are definitely the better team and the public expects them to bounce back in this game against the Lions. Detroit is a team going nowhere, but they do come in with some extra rest and this is a division game, so the Lions should be playing hard. The Vikings badly need to win this game and they are at home, plus they are the better team. The Lions definitely fit the ugly dog criteria, as they are a big underdog playing on the road against a superior team. We’ll take the Lions plus the points as an ugly dog.

New York Giants +9 at Philadelphia Eagles

Are the Giants actually the worst team in the NFL? It is shocking to ask that question for a team that has Saquon Barkley and a young quarterback in Daniel Jones, but the reality is that New York is 2-10 and they look even worse than the 1-11 Bengals. New York was routed last week against Green Bay and now they have to go into Philadelphia for a Monday night game against the Eagles. The Giants have nothing to play for, while the Eagles have everything in front of them. Philadelphia has not played well for most of this season, but if the Eagles win their last four games they will win the NFC East and make the playoffs. The Eagles have an easy schedule, as they face the Giants twice, the Redskins and also face the Cowboys in what will likely be the game that decides the division. We went against the Eagles last week in this column and got a win and I said last week that it may just be that Philadelphia isn’t any good. The problem for us in this game is that we know the Giants are not any good. Regardless, we’ll take the Giants as an ugly dog.
