Old School Meets New School
The Detroit Lions were 1-7 when they went to Lambeau Field three weeks ago. They hadn't won on the Frozen Tundra in literally decades, and they were 10.5-point underdogs. They won that day 18-16 in spite of the fact that they tried their best to give the game away, and they haven't looked back since with consecutive wins. If they can end this three-game home stand with yet another win, it isn't out of the question to think the Lions can get back in the playoffs while pushing the Green Bay Packers closer to the rest of the pack....
The battle for New York will take place in New Jersey. The Jets and Giants will be out to ruin each other’s season and the winner will likely do just that in a huge game between two mediocre teams. The Jets are back in the AFC wild card picture after knocking off the Dolphins and don’t have to travel for this ‘road’ game....
The landscape in Detroit has changed with the Lions rattling off three straight wins after a front office and coaching staff shakeup. The run started three weeks ago with their first win in Green Bay since 1991. Things are a bit different for the Packers, who have lost three of four and will try to regain the dominant form that led them to four straight NFC North titles....
The playoff race is as tight as could be in both the AFC and the NFC, and Week 13 is features a lot of divisional battles which will separate teams, perhaps once and for all....
St. Louis handed the Cardinals one of their two losses this season with an upset win in Arizona in Week 4. The Rams will need another upset of the NFC West leaders to snap a four-game losing streak that has them fading from the playoff race and coach Jeff Fisher on the hot seat....
The Browns benched the ring leader of their circus but have a glorious chance to end their five-game losing streak when they take on Baltimore's B team on Monday Night Football. Johnny Manziel hasn't progressed on the field as much as he has off it, and was demoted just days after being named the team's starter for the remainder of the season....
The Seahawks get another chance to beat a team with a winning record and their playoff hopes in the NFC may hinge on their ability to finally secure a win. Seattle has dominated lesser competition with its five victories against teams with a combined 13-27 record entering Week 12 action....
New England’s pursuit of a perfect season faces its stiffest test against Denver’s top-ranked defense when the two AFC powerhouses meet on Sunday Night Football. We won’t see the Brady vs. Manning matchup, with Peyton sidelined with a foot injury, and with other talented offensive players sidelined, this could be a defensive battle....
There are only a few teams who really have no playoff hopes left this year, but Week 12 is going to prove to be a tipping point for a lot of clubs. We'll see which teams have the best hopes to continuing on to factor into the playoff picture based on the line movement this week....
Russell Wilson is going up against one of the worst secondaries in the NFL this week, but there's a real question as to whether his Seattle Seahawks are deserving favorites against the Pittsburgh Steelers. For our purposes though, we don't so much care who ends up on which side of the four-point spread as much as we do whether Wilson will outduel Antonio Brown in our hypothetical fantasy football matchup....
On one glance, it would seem foolish to recommend that Tom Brady and Brock Osweiler belong in the same sentence together. Straight sports bettors know that Brady has put quarterbacks like Osweiler to shame for the last decade and a half, while fantasy football players have known Brady to be one of the most valuable commodities in the sport for that same period of time. However, when the Denver Broncos take on the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football this week, we see a lot of value in taking the kid from Arizona State as a big dog against the top dog in the league for fantasy football purposes....
It seems as though the Oakland Raiders can’t handle prosperity. Clinging to a playoff spot after knocking off the Jets four weeks ago, they haven’t won since and are in danger of slipping further out of contention. As poorly as the Raiders have played in that span they are still in a better state than the Titans, who look to avoid their 11th straight home loss....
The Dolphins are 0-4 against AFC East opponents this season, and the games haven’t been close. Miami has been embarrassed in division games, losing all four by an average of 21.25 points. The closest was a 14-point loss to the Jets when the teams met in London in Week 4. It’s never a good sign when you’re getting pummeled by the opponents that know you best....
The Chargers have to win a game and break out of a six-game slump at some point, don’t they? San Diego has won four straight against Jacksonville and Sunday’s game presents the best opportunity. But the Jags are riding a two-game winning streak and are right in the thick of the AFC South hunt....
San Francisco’s offense is now in the hands of Blaine Gabbert, and he hopes for better results against Arizona than his predecessor Colin Kaepernick had in Week 2. The Cards routed the Niners 47-7 in that game with two pick-sixes. The Niners are pathetic on the road, but have at least been competitive at home with all three wins coming at Levi’s Stadium....
Two teams in the thick of the AFC playoff picture hook up in a huge game. The Chiefs are riding a four-game winning streak and have looked like the best team in the AFC during the run. On a short week and playing their third consecutive road game in a notoriously loud environment, the Bills face a stiff test....
Both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks have lost their running backs for long periods of time, but that isn't putting a damper on the spirits of either team. There's still plenty for each to be thankful for going into Thanksgiving weekend, as neither one played to their potential, yet both are still firmly entrenched in the playoff chase in their respective conferences....
With six weeks left to play in the 2015 season, aren't a lot of teams which really have no chance whatsoever of getting into the playoffs. Just because two of those teams will be on display on Monday Night Football this week, that doesn't mean there won't be some fantastic betting opportunities for the duel between the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens....
There are only six games left on the docket for the New England Patriots, and they're going to be heavy favorites to win each of the six. If there's a team which could trip them up though, the Denver Broncos it....
The Carolina Panthers have been disrespected all season long, but at some point, they're going to have to be considered serious Super Bowl contenders. They're on the longest regular season winning streak dating back to last year we've seen in the NFL since the perfect Patriots eight years ago, and they have a huge war on their hands on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys....
Just the thought of pitting Jay Cutler against Aaron Rodgers for fantasy football purposes in a primetime game which could help decide the fate of both the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers in 2015 is almost laughable. History suggests that Cutler stands absolutely no chance against a man who is surely headed to Canton in the not-too-distant future, and it's tough to argue with that sentiment when you look at the direction the Packers and Bears are headed in coming into Thursday night....
Two weeks ago, Sam Bradford went down with a concussion, ending his somewhat improbable streak of games as the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. That leaves Mark Sanchez to go up against Matt Stafford of the Detroit Lions for fantasy football matchup purposes, and there's a real chance the edge is going to go to Sanchez in spite of the fact that neither quarterback is going to find a ton of success against the other defense on Thanksgiving Day....
Atlanta’s 5-0 start is a distant memory and the Falcons are now fighting just to remain relevant in the NFC playoff picture. The Vikings lost control of the NFC North with a loss to the Packers last week and have yet to beat a team with a winning record. That could be good news for the Falcons....
The Saints turned their bye week into bye-bye week for defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who was fired after the worst unit in the league was gouged by the Redskins two weeks ago. Several teams had an immediate resurgence after making changes in their coaching staffs and the Saints are hopeful new coordinator Dennis Allen can do the same for the struggling unit....
Cincinnati returns to its usual Sunday time slot after playing three straight primetime games. The Bengals are thankful for that after dropping the past two and seeing their lead in the AFC North sliced to two games over the charging Steelers. St. Louis is still looking for an offense to complement a defense considered one of the best in the NFL....
