Old School Meets New School
All the Andy Dalton bashers can stay quiet for at least another week after the Bengals’ quarterback put on a masterful fourth quarter and overtime display against Seattle’s vaunted defense last week, leading Cincinnati to its fifth straight victory to start the season. It’s the Bengals best start in over a decade and they’re a near perfect 4-0-1 ATS....
The Browns got a jolt of confidence with last week’s stirring overtime win over Baltimore and look to carry the momentum from that game into Sunday’s showdown with the unbeaten Broncos. For the second time this season Denver won a game without scoring an offensive touchdown, knocking off Oakland last week. As a result of their sluggish offense, the under is 4-1....
The Detroit Lions are presented with a great opportunity to get their first win of the season. The Lions are 4-0 in their NFC North rivalry with the Chicago Bears over the last two seasons and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings. But the Lions are also a mess this season and were booed off the Ford Field turf following last week’s blowout loss....
A gutsy call by coach Mike Tomlin and a determined run by Le’Veon Bell may have saved the Steelers season. Bell’s one-yard touchdown run with no time left propelled Pittsburgh to a Monday night win. The Steelers begin a stretch of four of five games at Heinz Field, beginning Sunday with the sizzling Arizona Cardinals. The Cards offense has been ridiculous this year, which has caused the over to go a perfect 5-0....
Things went horribly bad for the Chiefs last week. Their fourth straight loss, a numbing last second defeat at home to Chicago, was punctuated by the loss of star running back Jamaal Charles for the season with a knee injury. The Chiefs must now dig themselves out of the hole they’re in without one of the best in the business. They can take comfort knowing that the Vikings haven’t won a game following their bye week in five years....
The least likely unbeaten in the NFL looks to match its win total from last season when the Falcons visit the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football. There’s a reason why the Falcons haven’t lost: They refuse to lose. Atlanta is the only team in league history to start 5-0 after trailing in the fourth quarter during four of those games....
Coming off their bye, the New York Jets look to continue their impressive start to the season when they host the injury-ravaged Redskins.New York had a week off to heal and prepare for a Washington team that suffered four more injuries to starters in last week’s overtime loss in Atlanta. The Redskins played in MetLife Stadium just three weeks ago, falling 32-21 to the Giants....
The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping for better results with Michael Vick at quarterback. His first start in place of the injured Ben Roethlisberger didn’t go so well with an overtime loss to Baltimore, but he’s had 10 days to prepare for the Monday Night Football showdown with San Diego. The Chargers haven’t put up much of a fight against the Steelers in recent years and that’s translated at the betting window. Pittsburgh is 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings....
Suicide pools have been impossible to try to run this year, knowing that two things have been happening a ton this year. First off, there haven't been all that many obvious choices to make. Secondly, many of those seemingly obvious choices have ended in disaster. If by chance you're still alive in your suicide pool, best of luck trying to figure out which team to pick in Week 6 in what might be the most level playing field we've seen all season long in the NFL....
The Seahawks got their season back on the right path with a pair of home wins and now take flight to face the undefeated Bengals on Sunday. The Legion of Boom is back, allowing just a field goal in 20 opponent possessions in those wins. The Bengals are one of six unbeatens remaining and can silence the rest of the critics by improving to 5-0 for the first time since 1988, the year of their last Super Bowl appearance....
New England was supposed to be the team without its starting quarterback entering this inter-conference matchup with Dallas. Instead the Cowboys are just trying to stay afloat without Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, and now running back Lance Dunbar as the injuries continue to mount. Tom Brady had his four-game suspension overturned prior to the season and has been on fire, leading the Patriots to a 3-0 SU and 2-0-1 ATS record this season....
With dreams of playing in Super Bowl 50 on their home field all but done, the 49ers would take being competitive right now following three straight blowout losses that saw them get outscored by a combined 79 points. The Giants, meanwhile, have a chance to stay on top of the NFC East and improve on their 3-1 ATS record against the Niners, who are just 1-9 ATS in their last 10....
The Cardinals got a wake-up call last week, getting knocked from the unbeaten ranks by the Rams. The Lions’ first win of the season was knocked out of the back of the end zone in Seattle. Detroit will try again for its first win of the year and will have to end a six-game losing streak to the Cardinals to get it this week....
Since Peyton Manning joined the Broncos for the 2012 season, they’ve owned the AFC West. Manning is 18-1 against division foes and leads the undefeated Broncos in search of their eighth straight win over Oakland. It’s been so bad for the Raiders, they hired former Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio as head coach to try and reverse their fortunes....
The discrepancy between sharp and square plays is usually apparent in the NFL, but in Week 5 of the season, that gap is incredibly large and is causing some major line movements in some of these games.Note: All current NFL odds listed as of Thursday morning. Logon to BookMaker Sportsbook for up-to-the-minute odds....
Michael Vick was really put into an unfair situation in Week 4. He was asked to start on a Thursday night just four days after Ben Roethlisberger was injured. Now, the new Pittsburgh Steelers' starter will get the benefit of a long week of prep to get ready for a crucial tilt with the San Diego Chargers....
We had some decent picks last week with David Carr, Mark Ingram and Danny Woodhead, but swung and missed bigtime with Andrew Luck who didn’t even play as well as Julio Jones and Seth Roberts. Let’s give it another crack in Week 5 and see what we can do.The players listed below will help get you in the money, but you’ll need to put the work in to have a shot at finishing in the green in Week 5....
The Eagles and Saints have struggled for vastly different reasons this season. They’ll try and figure it out against each other on Sunday. Surprisingly, Philly’s offense has been stagnant, ranking near the bottom of the NFL in every offensive category. Under bettors aren’t complaining, however, as all four of the Eagles games have gone under the total....
The unbeaten Atlanta Falcons will look to stay perfect both straight up and against the spread when they host the Redskins on Sunday. The Falcons have been an early season surprise and one of the most dominant teams in the NFL so far, and they’re 4-1 SU in their last five games as favorites against the Redskins....
Baltimore owns the AFC North rivalry with Cleveland, winning 13 of the last 14 meetings outright and seven straight at MT Bank Stadium. The Browns are 4-2-1 ATS over the last seven series meetings and gave the Ravens several scares. But with the Browns struggling, the vow of owner Jimmy Haslam not to “blow things up” is being tested....
At this time last week, we never envisioned that either Andrew Luck or Joe Haden wouldn't play for their respective teams due to injuries which were originally reported as minor. It's just proof that NFL injuries are always worth looking at, which is what we'll do today as we are about halfway to the main portion of the slate in Week 5....
There was a point that both Andrew Luck and Ryan Mallett were in definite doubt to play on Thursday Night Football for the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans respectively. Both are going to play this week though, and that will give Luck a massive advantage for fantasy betting purposes at BookMaker....
Death, taxes and Antonio Brown picking up at least five catches for at least 50 yards. Those were the certainties in life until Ben Roethlisberger got hurt....
No one is going to debate the fact that the New York Giants are the better team against the San Francisco 49ers. It's really easy to make a case for New York in this game from a betting standpoint, knowing that the Niners have been a wreck and have to travel all the way across the country. But is it a smart idea to play Eli Manning against Colin Kaepernick in BookMaker's fantasy matchup? That's a much different conversation which begs to be had....
Theoretically, the Dallas Cowboys really don't have a whole heck of a lot of a shot of beating the New England Patriots. However, there is a great way to find a way to win by betting on Dallas in this game, and that is going to be on fantasy football bets. Rob Gronkowski will be matched up with Joseph Randle and will likely be a favorite by BookMaker's standards, but that certainly isn't justifiable from our standpoint....
