Atalanta continue to climb. The club won promotion back to the Serie A in 2011, and they were a middling club for their first five seasons in the top flight. The Goddess have looked a lot better over the last three seasons though. Atalanta finished fourth in Serie A in 2016-17, and they came in seventh place last season. This season, they are currently in the top four, and Atalanta are out to win their first trophy in nearly 50 years. They will face Lazio with the Coppa Italia on the line this Wednesday.

Odds Analysis
Lazio are no strangers to the Coppa Italia. They have won six Italian Cups in their history, and five of those trophies have been claimed in the last two decades. To get to the final, Lazio have relied on their defense. They allowed just two goals in four matches before Wednesday’s tilt. Lazio beat third-division Novara 4-1 in the Round of 16, before edging the Milan clubs in the quarterfinals and the semifinals.
Throughout their four games in this competition, Atalanta have poured in the goals no matter who they have played. They started off in the Round of 16 with a 2-0 win over Cagliari, and then they stunned defending champions Juventus 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Atalanta were tested by Fiorentina in the semifinals, but they prevailed 5-4 over the course of two legs. This team has been the highest scoring in the Serie A this season too, and Atalanta are the only club averaging more than two goals per game in league play.
Interestingly enough, these teams met at the Stadio Olimpico less than 10 days ago. Lazio got off to a strong start with a Marco Parolo goal in the third minute, but the hosts couldn’t hold Atalanta at bay. Duvan Zapata leveled in the 22nd minute, and then Timothy Castagne scored in the 58th before an own goal from Wallace sealed a 3-1 victory for Atalanta.
Injury Report
Marco Varnier has not been available for Atalanta all season long due to a major knee injury, while Rafael Toloi is considered questionable because of a sprained ankle.
There are a number of injury concerns for Lazio ahead of this match. Jordan Lukaku, Valon Berisha, Patric, and Thomas Strakosha are all questionable to play, while Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is considered probable.
Matchup to Watch
Gian Piero Gasperini has done an incredible job as manager of Atalanta. He has turned the club around over the last three seasons, and he has a small club without much resources winning and winning pretty. Atalanta are a treat to watch with their predilection to put the pedal to the metal, and they are happy to continually push forward and look for opportunities.
Duvan Zapata is among the league leaders with 22 goals and seven assists, and Josip Ilicic and Alejandro Gomez have been key focal points of the attack too. Zapata has scored in both of Atalanta’s games against Lazio this season, so he will be out to go three for three with a trophy on the line.
Free Soccer Betting Pick
Lazio have not looked too impressive over the last month of the campaign with losses to SPAL and Chievo. Meanwhile, Atalanta continue to impress, so I’ll take them to win even though this is a nominal home game for Lazio.
Italian Coppa Italia Final Odds: Atalanta 2, Lazio 1
