Winning the scudetto is almost Juventus’ birthright at this point. Juventus have won the last eight Serie A titles, and they are odds-on favorites to win the league title once more. However, they aren’t as big of favorites as they were last season per the Serie A betting odds, and some are saying this might be the year Napoli or Inter break through once more. That should make for an exciting season in Italy.

Juventus spent a ton of money last offseason, and they doubled down again after failing to win the Champions League. Maurizio Sarri came in to lead the club and they spent nearly $100 million to land Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax. The 19-year-old center back was one of the stalwarts for the Dutch club, and he will certainly add some grit to a back line that oddly lacked it at times last season.
Cristian Romero, Merih Demiral, and Luca Pellegrini are defenders that came over from other Italian clubs to shore up the back line, as Juventus parted ways with Rogerio and Leonardo Spinazzola. The loss of Moise Kean might really sting too as the young talent just couldn’t see regular time behind so much talent.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be the leader up front. He is a proven scorer in the Champions League, and he was unafraid to shoot his shot in Italy. Aaron Ramsey came in from Arsenal to provide some depth in the midfield and former teammate Sami Khedira will have a major impact too.
Upgrading defense was the priority for Napoli in the offseason too. Konstantinos Manolas and Alex Meret were the club’s two biggest signings, as they looked to improve center back and goalkeeper.
This Napoli side can score. Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens have made for a fun combination up front, and Lorenzo Insigne has provided some flair too. Fabian Ruiz and Piotr Zielinski are the stars in the midfield.
Welcome back to Italy, Antonio Conte. Conte’s return has created a lot of optimism at the San Siro, and the club has opened up the purse strings a little. Valentino Lazaro and Matteo Politano were the two biggest names acquired, but Inter picking up Diego Godin on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid could be huge too in Conte’s system.
The ongoing saga of Mauro Icardi needs to come to an end. The fallout between the player and the club has been toxic, and management has informed their former star forward that he will never play for them again. Reports indicate the club is looking to make a big splash by bringing in Romelu Lukaku, and that would be a huge get.
This last decade has not gone well for Inter’s Milan rival. AC Milan have missed out on the Champions League for the last four years, and that lack of extra funds has kept the club from competing. This offseason, they said enough was enough and started spending once more in an effort to compete. Rafael Leao was a nice signing, but perhaps the more important grab was that of Franck Kessie from league rival Atalanta.
AS Roma have been looking to make it big too, but the club’s struggles last year make it hard to imagine a real breakthrough. There have been some moderate changes at the club, yet more needs to be done for Roma to really compete once more.
The fate of Atalanta will be a curious one. The club set Serie A on fire and ended the year with more goals than any other team in Italy, but some of last year’s stars are gone. They have money to make a splash because of their Champions League entry.
