Odds Analysis
The USWNT was everyone’s team to beat ahead of the World Cup, and they have lived up to the billing through the first three weeks of the competition. No team in Group F could stymie the offensive onslaught as the United States outscored their group opponents by a combined score of 18-0 prior to the start of the knockout rounds. They have had some tougher tests now that we are in the bracket, but they have still vanquished all their foes.
Spain proved to be a more difficult opponent than anyone believed. La Roja were able to create a lot of problems with their possession in the midfield, effectively blunting the USWNT attack. They couldn’t finish in the final third though, and the US eventually advanced on the strength of two penalties from Megan Rapinoe.
Rapinoe was again the hero in the United States’ 2-1 win over France in the quarterfinals. She netted the game’s first goal in the fifth minute, and she gave the USWNT their second goal at a time when they desperately needed it.
Meanwhile, the Three Lionesses have allowed just one goal in five matches. England gave up a goal to Scotland in a 2-1 victory in their opener, but they have secured four straight clean sheets since that point. In the group stage, a win over Argentina was very much expected, and a 2-0 win over Japan thanks to an Ellen White brace gave them the group.
In the knockout rounds, we have seen England dominate unlike any other team. The Three Lionesses were heavy favorites against Cameroon in the Round of 16 and they secured a 3-0 victory despite some questionable tactics from their opponents. They were supposed to be tested by Norway in the quarterfinals, but instead England secured another 3-0 win with their most impressive performance yet.
United States Player to Watch
Rapinoe is the one to highlight for the USWNT coming into this match. She is currently tied with teammate Alex Morgan with five goals at this World Cup, but while all five of Morgan’s goals came against Thailand, Rapinoe has scored when her country needed it the most. She is not typically known for her goal scoring touch, but she has been a clinical finisher in France. That’s been very important with Morgan banged up.
England Player to Watch
White has been very good thus far too. She has scored in four of England’s five matches, and she has constantly helped set up her teammates. White has been an integral part of the Three Lionesses’ success, and she is currently tied with both Rapinoe and Morgan at five goals.

This game is going to be more high scoring than the oddsmakers believe. Although neither the United States or England has really allowed goals, both teams have had some issues in defense. Meanwhile, both of these teams have an embarrassing abundance of offensive talent, and that talent will be on full display here.
