This is the match that everyone has both waited for and feared when the bracket was announced for this year’s Women’s World Cup. Defending champions United States and hosts France were the two favorites coming into this year’s tournament, but rather than face each other in the final, they will square off in the Quarterfinals instead. That will leave one of these two sides incredibly dejected, while the winner will immediately become the favorite to win it all. Both teams have yet to lose a match at the World Cup.
Don't miss this Women’s World Cup match from the Parc des Princes in Paris, France at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, June 28, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on FOX.

Odds Analysis
France looked great in their first match of this competition. They opened up their bid with a 4-0 win over South Korea, but there have been some real struggles from there. Norway were a tougher test than expected, and France couldn’t crack through Nigeria’s back line until a Wendie Renard penalty in the 79th minute.
Their World Cup hopes nearly went up in flames against Brazil in the Round of 16 though. France were the stronger team in the first half but couldn’t notch a goal, but they felt a lot more confident after Valerie Gauvin scored in the 52nd minute. Brazil turned the pressure up from that point forward. Thaisa tied the match in the 63rd minute, and for a while it looked like the Selecao would pull off the upset. However, the sensational Amandine Henry came through in extra time to give France a spot in the quarterfinals.
The USWNT throttled Thailand 13-0 in their opener and followed up that stomp with a 3-0 win over Chile in their next match. That led to a showdown between Sweden and the US for the top spot in Group F that the Americans won 2-0, but the Swedes had their share of chances.
In the Round of 16, Spain hung tough with the USWNT. Megan Rapinoe fired home a penalty in the seventh minute to put the US up, but a defensive error two minutes later led to Spain tying the match at 1-1. From there, Spain’s midfield increasingly frustrated the United States, but they failed to create many opportunities in the final third. Eventually, the United States caused enough pressure for a second penalty opportunity and Rapinoe slotted that one past the goalkeeper to put the Stars and Stripes in the final eight.
United States Player to Watch
Alex Morgan is not 100 percent. Morgan did not look fully fit against Spain, and she had a poor game by her lofty standards. She failed to convert chances she probably would have if she were healthy, leaving Jill Ellis with a decision to make. Will Ellis play a dinged-up Morgan against France or will she use Christen Press or Carli Lloyd up top?
France Player to Watch
Henry was superb against Brazil, seemingly willing her team to victory with her strong play. She was named Player of the Match for making a great run to knock home a long free kick, and France’s captain will be a national hero if she leads Les Bleues past the United States.

This should be the match of the tournament, as France and the United States both looked like the teams to beat after strong showings ahead of this year’s World Cup. The USWNT have the history, but France have the home crowd and nothing to lose at this point. I think the continuity of having so many players on the national team play club ball together will be vital and help them grab a win over the USWNT here.
