Italy have been the most surprising team at the Women’s World Cup. The Italians had not qualified for the World Cup since 1999 prior to this year, and they have made the most of this appearance. Italy have made it to the quarterfinals for the second time in their history, and they are looking to make it to the semifinals for the first time ever when they face the Netherlands on Saturday. The Dutch have never made it past the Round of 16, so the team that wins will be a first time semifinalist.

Odds Analysis
The Netherlands have improved drastically in a very short amount of time. The country had never qualified for a Women’s World Cup prior to 2015, but they have improved markedly over the last four years. They won the 2017 European Championship, and they are the favorites in this match.
The Oranje have yet to lose a match in France. They scooted past New Zealand thanks to an injury time goal in their opener, but they looked much better in a 3-1 win over Cameroon in their next match. Holland followed that up with a 2-1 win over Canada to top Group E, pitting them against former champions Japan in the Round of 16.
In an incredibly even match, the Netherlands beat Japan by a margin of 2-1. Lieke Martens scored the game’s first goal and the Dutch controlled the first third of the match. However, Japan tied the game just before halftime and continually put pressure on the Netherlands in the second half. It looked like it would be just a matter of time before Japan broke through, but a hand ball in the box at the end of full time gave Martens a penalty kick opportunity. She converted and put the Dutch into the quarterfinals.
Italy were not expected to win a group that included Australia and Brazil, but they managed to stun the Matildas in their opener with a Barbara Bonansea goal at the death. A blowout win over Jamaica in their next match gave them the edge in the group, and a narrow loss to Brazil meant they won the group on goal differential.
They played a complete game in their 2-0 win over China in the Round of 16. Although China had the advantage in terms of overall statistics, Italy countered beautifully and didn’t need to create much after going up 2-0 early in the second half.
Netherlands Player to Watch
Vivianne Miedema is one of the most dangerous players on the Netherlands. Despite being just 22 years old, she is the most prolific scorer in Dutch history, and she will look to send the Oranje into the semifinals. Miedema notched a brace against Cameroon, but she has been unable to find the back of the net in the Netherland’s other three matches. That’s unlike her as she has 60 goals in 79 appearances with the national team.
Italy Player to Watch
Defense has always been the hallmark of Italian teams, and that’s been the case at this World Cup. Italy have allowed just two goals in their four matches with goalkeeper Laura Giuliani making some incredible saves. She came up big a couple times to preserve a clean sheet against China, and she made a phenomenal save against Brazil in the game before that.
Free Soccer Betting Pick
Italy will do their best to make this a defensive game. They will try to stall the Dutch repeatedly in the midfield leading to a herky-jerky game that doesn’t have a clean rhythm. I think they’ll be able to do that and pick up a 1-0 win.
