2025 MLB Betting Online
A huge favorite to repeat as World Series champions after another offseason haul, the Los Angeles Dodgers may not lose a game. That won’t happen but the MLB record for wins in a season is within reach. The Dodgers are one of three teams to open the 2025 MLB season undefeated claiming their sixth victory Monday against the Atlanta Braves, 6-1. And speaking of the Braves things went from bad to worse for them. Not only were they swept in a season-opening four-game series in San Diego then dropped the first game of the LA series, they also lost offseason acquisition Jurickson Profar to a suspension for testing positive for PEDs.
The beautiful thing about futures odds is that there is time to rebound from a poor start. And that’s the case in MLB with 157 more games remaining for the Braves. They will at some point sooner rather than later get reinforcements with Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. returning to the lineup and the collective batting slump will end. Through their first five games the Braves are hitting .144 and have scored just eight runs. Oddsmakers haven’t abandoned the Braves, though, bringing them in this week with around 14/1 odds.

The Yankees lived up to their Bronx Bombers nickname scoring 36 runs and belting 15 homers in a three-game sweep of Milwaukee. Aaron Judge struck first in the AL MVP race hitting three homers and driving in eight runs in Saturday’s 20-9 victory. The question for New York is whether their pitching can hold up with Gerrit Cole out for the year and Luis Gil on long term IR. After the Dodgers and Yankees the odds board is cluttered with 11 teams having between 10/1 and 30/1 odds. Criticized for a lack of offseason moves, the Padres set a franchise record by winning their first five games.

San Diego Padres
The top 5 teams on the World Series odds board stayed the same from last week so we’ll take a look at the next five starting with the Padres. No team in the nearly six-decade history of the franchise started with five straight victories until this group achieved history with a 7-2 win over Cleveland on Monday night. The Pads have the second-best run differential in the NL behind the Dodgers have surrendered just nine runs in five games. They don’t have a lot of depth so avoiding long-term injuries is critical for their overall success.
Baltimore Orioles
It’s been hit or miss early on for the O’s, who alternated wins and losses over their first five games. In three wins they’ve averaged nearly 10 runs while scoring a total of three runs in two losses. The club is counting on Felix Bautista to take over the closer job after missing all of last season, giving the team one less thing to worry about. He has yet to pitch in a save situation giving up three hits and three walks in 2.0 innings.
Houston Astros
Is the championship window closing in Houston? Not yet, at least according to oddsmakers. The Astros have some young talent ready to take over after Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker left. Yordan Alvarez is one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball and Jose Altuve is still around. Pitching is their strength with a scary top of the rotation featuring Framber Valdez, Hunter Brown and Spencer Arrighetti, who combined to allow just three runs in 19 innings in their first starts of the season while taking two of three from the Mets.
Texas Rangers
Just two seasons ago the Rangers won the World Series so it’s hard to throw them on the scrap heap. They have a lot of players back from that title squad with a chip on their shoulder after finishing six games below .500 and missing the playoffs last year. The return of Jacob deGrom, once the most dominant hurler in the majors, should make Texas a threat if he remains healthy. In his first start deGrom tossed five shutout innings taking a no-decision in a 3-2 win over Boston.
Boston Red Sox
The one thing about relying on prospects is that they are just prospects with no big league credentials. The Sox have three highly ranked prospects expected to make an impact with Kristian Campbell already in the show. Tinkering with the lineup to make room for prospects has consequences, too. Rafael Devers was unhappy about a position change and it has apparently affected his game. He went hitless in 19 at-bats over his first five games striking out 15 times. The Sox lost four straight after a season-opening win averaging just 2.6 runs in those outings.
