2025 MLB Betting Online
Nearly two weeks into the 2025 season three of the top four teams in MLB reside in the NL West. And surprisingly it’s not the Los Angeles Dodgers leading the way. Matching their best 11-game start in franchise history the San Diego Padres improved to 9-2 with a 5-4 victory over the Athletics on Monday night. The San Francisco Giants had their seven-game winning streak ended by Cincinnati on Monday falling to 8-2 and the Dodgers followed a season-opening eight-game win streak by dropping three of four, including two straight following Monday’s 6-4 loss to Washington. Despite their slump the Dodgers remain a big favorite in the MLB futures odds market with the New York Yankees the second favorite. They are the only two teams on the board with shorter than 10/1 odds.
We saw last year the Dodgers were able to overcome a plethora of injuries to their rotation to win their first full-season World Series title since 1988 and their second overall in five years. They won the COVID-shortened title in 2020. Injuries have been an issue early with prized free-agent acquisition Blake Snell shelved for a few weeks with a sore shoulder and Freddie Freeman still sidelined with a bum ankle. The Pads are dealing with injuries as well. Jackson Merrill was out with a sore hammy and the club is awaiting the return of starters Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove. San Diego sits among the second-tier of World Series favorites while the Giants are further down the odds board.

It hasn’t even been two weeks into a six-month long season so there will be plenty of ups and downs over the summer. The Yankees have started off smashing the ball all over the yard with Aaron Judge putting up MVP-type numbers. However, Tuesday’s loss to the Tigers was New York’s third straight. And to reinforce the adage that the MLB season is a marathon and not a sprint, the 1-8 Atlanta Braves have the fourth shortest championship odds. They will get impact players Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. back in the lineup making them more of a force than what they’ve shown so far.

Los Angeles Dodgers
With the three California-based NL teams off to hot starts we’ll take a twirl around the NL West this week. We knew the Dodgers weren’t going to go undefeated and if they learned anything from last season it’s that they have depth to overcome obstacles. It could be argued that they are deeper in 2025. Just 12 games into the season and we’ve rarely seen the Dodgers at full strength with Mookie Betts missing time earlier in the season and Freddie Freeman currently out of the lineup. Despite that the Dodgers have the second-most home runs in MLB and average more than five runs per game.
San Diego Padres
Is the start to the campaign a sign of things to come for the Padres? Twice before in their history the Pads started a season with nine wins in their first 11 games and both times they reached the World Series. Their bullpen has been outstanding in the early going and the rotation will be bolstered when Darvish and Musgrove return. Collectively the Pads have the second-highest batting average in the majors at .282 and their stars have produced with Fernando Tatis Jr. hitting .381 and Manny Machado batting .333. They aren’t as deep as the Dodgers and injuries could hinder them in a big way.
Arizona Diamondbacks
A 5-1 loss to Baltimore on Monday was Arizona’s third straight and fourth in five games dropping them below .500. The addition of Corbin Burnes to a rotation that includes Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen was supposed to be a strength. That hasn’t been the case in the early going with the Dbacks boasting one of the highest team ERA’s in the majors and allowing the second-most HRs. Offense hasn’t been a problem but the Dbacks better get their pitching corrected before they fall further behind the leaders.
San Francisco Giants
A surprise at the start of the year the Giants won seven in a row thanks to timely hitting and strong pitching. The tone was set in the spring and it carried over with the club playing crisp baseball. They boast the third-best staff ERA in the majors and will likely have to continue that trend backing an offense that hits just .228 collectively. The Giants have benefitted from a soft schedule with none of their opponents currently above .500.
Colorado Rockies
Not much is expected from the Rockies this season as they groom their young talent. They could play the role of spoiler, though, especially at Coors Field. In their first six games, all of which were on the road, the team scored a total of 11 runs and they went 1-5. Back home they scored 19 runs in a three-game series with the Athletics, though they lost twice. The bullpen has been atrocious with an ERA near 7.00 and a MLB high seven home runs allowed.
