The 2024 MLB Playoffs are down to the final two teams with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees meeting in the 2024 World Series. The Dodgers won the first two games of the best-of-seven series in Los Angeles and now the series shifts to New York for the next three games. To reach this point, the Dodgers took out the New York Mets in six games in the NLCS after getting past the San Diego Padres in the Divisional round, while the Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians in five games in the ALCS after getting past the Kansas City Royals in the Divisional round. The Dodgers have been a regular in the playoffs making their 12th straight appearance but they have not had the success most expected of them. Los Angeles did win the World Series in 2020, but it came with an asterisk, as it was a COVID shortened season. Boasting the best record and home field through the AL playoffs, the New York Yankees rolled through the American League playoffs. They have a rich history of winning in the playoffs, but they have not won a World Series since 2009.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were listed as a slight favorite before the 2024 World Series began and they are now more than a 3-1 favorite in World Series odds after winning the first two games at home. The World Series features two of the best hitters in the league and former MVP winners in Aaron Judge of the Yankees and Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers. Judge won the AL MVP award in 2022, and Ohtani won the AL MVP award in 2021 and 2023. Both are expected to win their respective league MVP awards this season. This will be the 12th meeting between the Yankees and Dodgers in the World Series with New York winning eight of the previous 11 World Series meetings.

Game 5, Wednesday, Oct 30 - LAD 7, NYY 6

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers have a dynamic offense that finished with the fourth-highest run differential in a postseason series. They have Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts leading the way and the lineup is deep, all the way down to Will Smith, Teoscar Hernandez, Max Muncy and NLCS MVP Tommy Edman. What Los Angeles doesn't have much of is pitching, but they have a very good bullpen that they will be using heavily in the three games in New York.

New York Yankees

The Yankees have plenty of star power with Aaron Judge and Juan Soto but Judge has been awful in the postseason throughout his career and must turn things around if the Yankees are to win the World Series. It has been Soto who has lived up to expectations. He is carrying the New York offense but he hasn’t been able to do it alone, as the Yankees lost the first two games of the series in Los Angeles. New York has a solid number one starting pitcher in Gerrit Cole and their bullpen has been excellent. Luke Weaver has been really good as the closer and New York has gotten solid outings from almost all of their relievers in the playoffs.
