2019 NBA Power Rankings
The Golden State Warriors have now lost DeMarcus Cousins and Kevin Durant due to injury in the playoffs. Does that knock them from the top perch in the latest version of the NBA power rankings? Not a chance. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson proved why this is still the team to beat in a fantastic Game 6 road win over the Rockets and are now taking aim at the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals. Portland is on an impressive run and is no stranger to being an underdog so it will be confident despite some long odds.
The Milwaukee Bucks continue to look like the team to beat in the East and all they have to do is dispatch the Toronto Raptors to punch their ticket into the NBA Finals. That’s easier said than done as the Raptors have a fantastic team themselves. There are only four teams remaining in the playoffs. See below to check out where they are rated in the latest version of our power rankings.
ODDS TO WIN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP (AS OF MAY 20TH) |
Golden State Warriors -201 |
Milwaukee Bucks +167 |
Portland Trail Blazers +22000 |
Toronto Raptors +1850 |
Here is a quick capsule of our weekly rankings
1. Golden State Warriors (LW: 1) - The Warriors had a tough second-round matchup against Houston, and the Rockets certainly gave them a scare, but the dominance of Curry and Thompson again proved to be too much. The Warriors are heavy favorites to beat the Portland to claim another Western Conference title, although everyone knows the goal is a world championship. Durant seems likely to be back near the tail end of this series, which will give the team another huge boost.
2. Milwaukee Bucks (LW: 2) - The Bucks received a small scare when they lost the opener of their second-round series against the Celtics, but came back strong and dominated the rest of the way. Giannis Antetokounmpo has not been intimidated by the bright lights of the playoffs as he continues to play like an MVP. The supporting cast is terrific, and Milwaukee is living up to the billing of a team that finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA. The Bucks have the home court advantage against the Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals and are the favorite to advance for a likely showdown with the Warriors for the championship.
3. Toronto Raptors (LW: 4) - The Raptors are coming off a thrilling seven-game second-round series against the 76ers in which Kawhi Leonard nailed a buzzer-beater in the final game to lift Toronto into the East finals. Leonard was unreal in the series and his presence has turned the Raptors from a solid regular season team into a legitimate threat in the playoffs. Even though Toronto is the underdog against the Bucks, it wouldn’t be a shock to see it pull off the upset and advance to the NBA Finals.
Leonard figures to have another good series, but he will need help from players like Marc Gasol, Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, and Pascal Siakam.
4. Portland Trail Blazers (LW: 6) - The Trail Blazers are a bit of a surprise to be here, as they were the underdogs in their second-round matchup with the Nuggets and rallied from a 17-point deficit in Game 7 for the victory. C.J. McCollum came up huge in that game, and Damian Lillard was fantastic for much of the series as well. The Warriors may have the famed Splash Brothers in their backcourt but the Blazers’ duo is pretty impressive as well. Portland is a big underdog in the Western Conference Finals and needs to find a way to grab some early wins while Durant is still on the shelf.
