Big Ten Conference NCAA Tournament Betting
The Big Ten is one of the top conferences in college basketball once again this season. Bubble Watch currently projects six teams from the conference to take part in the NCAA Tournament: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin. That gives the conference a good chance of winning its first national championship since Tom Izzo led the Spartans to the title in 2000.
Wisconsin, Illinois, and Purdue will be the top three seeds in the Big Ten Tournament. The Badgers will lock up the No. 1 seed as long as they beat last-place Nebraska in their season finale, and the Cornhuskers are 3-16 in Big Ten play this season. Sophomore Johnny Davis has been sensational for the Badgers this year, and he was the Wooden Award frontrunner early in the season. Davis leads the Badgers with 20.3 PPG and 8.3 RPG. Wisconsin has quality non-conference wins over Houston, St. Mary’s, Marquette, and Texas A&M.
Michigan and Rutgers are hoping to play their way into the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines are 16-13 overall and 10-9 in conference play, while the Scarlet Knights have one of the craziest resumes you have ever seen for a team. Rutgers has awful losses against Lafayette and Massachusetts, and the Scarlet Knights needed overtime to beat Lehigh in their season opener. However, the Scarlet Knights have also defeated Purdue, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Iowa. They likely need to win at least two games in order to feel confident about their chances to win the NCAA Tournament.
Big Ten Tournament Format
The Big Ten Tournament is the last college basketball conference tournament played before the Selection Committee decides which teams will take part in March Madness. All 14 teams in the Big Ten will be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana as the tournament runs from March 9-13.
The bottom four teams in the conference will have to win five games in five days to earn the Big Ten’s automatic bid. They will play in the first round on Wednesday, March 9, while the next six teams in the conference enter the bracket on Thursday, March 10. The top four teams receive a double bye into the quarterfinals, giving them a big advantage in terms of rest. The Big Ten Championship Game will be held on Sunday, March 13, at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Michigan State broke an unofficial tie with Ohio State in 2019 to become the all-time leader in Big Ten Tournament championships. We say unofficial because the Buckeyes had to vacate their 2002 title and officially have the second-most titles with four. Rival Michigan knows that pain, having vacated its title from the inaugural tourney in 1998 and wouldn’t capture its “first” championship until 19 years later. The Wolverines made up for lost time by becoming the third team to win back-to-back Big Ten Tournament titles.
Success tends to happen in bunches for teams in the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan State won this event in consecutive years in 1999 and 2000, and it reached the title game four times from 2012 through 2016, winning it three times in that span. Ohio State was in the Big Ten Championship Game four straight years from 2010 through 2013, and it won the title in three of those four years.
