Colonial Athletic Association NCAA Tournament Betting
The Colonial Athletic Association had 10 teams in basketball this season, but only nine teams will be taking part in the CAA Tournament. James Madison was declared ineligible just before the start of the season as the Dukes are joining the Sun Belt this summer for football reasons. The four-time conference champions were 6-12 in CAA play this year, so it was unlikely that they would have run the table regardless of the move.
Towson is the clear favorite to win the CAA this season. The Tigers finished the regular season 15-3, and they ranked 62nd in Ken Pomeroy’s metrics. This team ranked first in offensive efficiency and defensive efficiency in the conference. Nicolas Timberlake led the team with 14.3 PPG while making over 40% of his threes, and Cameron Holden is averaging 13.6 PPG and 8.1 RPG.
UNC Wilmington is the No. 2 team in the tournament and also finished 15-3 in conference play. There is reason to be skeptical about the Seahawks though, as they won all four of their overtime games and were 6-1 overall in one possession games. They don’t turn the ball over, but they are ranked in the bottom 100 in two-point shooting and three-point shooting, and they don’t defend the three-point line well. This team is a good candidate to be upset early in the CAA Tournament.
We saw Hofstra score a big win over Arkansas a week before Christmas, and that has helped the Pride with the overall ratings. They lost both their games to Towson by double digits this season, but they won at least one game against every other team in the conference. The Pride do not get to the free throw line and play bad defense, but they have a strong interior game and don’t make a lot of careless mistakes.
Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Format
There will be changes to the CAA format this year with the exclusion of James Madison. The top seven teams earned an automatic berth in the quarterfinals, while 8-21 Northeastern and 5-26 William & Mary will meet for the right to get trounced by Towson less than 24 hours later. The play-in game is slated for Saturday, March 5, at 5 p.m. ET, and the first full day of action kicks off at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 6.
Every CAA game will take place at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington DC. The semifinals will be held on Monday, March 7, and the final is slated for Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. ET.

It's strange to think that the CAA has had not just one, but two Final Four teams in recent memory. Even more ironic? Neither team that reached the Final Four was the conference tournament winner that year. In both cases, the 2006 George Mason team that shocked UConn en route to the Final Four and the 2011 VCU squad that put HAVOC on the map were at large bids, the latter of which had to go through the First Four to get to the Final Four. Neither team is in the CAA any longer though.
As far as Colonial Conference Tournament titles go, Old Dominion has more of them than any other school with eight. Oh sure, VCU and George Mason had their success before leaving this conference with five and four conference titles respectively, but now, UNC Wilmington has run them both down. The Seahawks have six league titles, and they can move within one of Old Dominion this year.
While the top teams in the CAA have had some incredible success, the bottom teams in this conference have struggled. Elon and William & Mary have never been to the Big Dance in their history, and for the Tribe, that really stings. They've been on the verge of the NCAA Tournament five times by reaching the CAA Championship Game, only to lose all five.
