Conference USA NCAA Tournament Betting
The third time didn’t turn out to be the charm for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Western Kentucky made it to the Conference USA Championship Game for the third straight tournament last year, but the Hilltoppers again lost a close, low-scoring game. The team that beat them most recently is the frontrunner going into the Conference USA Tournament, and the North Texas Mean Green could even get an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
North Texas is 22-4 overall and 15-1 this season. The Mean Green started the year 2-3, but they have won 20 of their last 21 games and none of their losses are particularly bad.
They are 4-2 against Quad 2 opponents and 1-1 against Quad 2 opponents. Tylor Perry is the top scorer on the team with 13.8 PPG while making 44.2% of his threes, and Thomas Bell and Abou Ousmane have both been inside presences.
You certainly can’t discount UAB’s chances of winning the Conference USA Tournament. The Blazers are 23-7 overall and 13-4 in CUSA play heading into their season finale with Louisiana Tech. They were the one team to knock off North Texas in conference play back on January 6, and they lost by just one point in the rematch two weeks ago. Jordan Walker is one of the top players in the conference, averaging 19.2 PPG while making 40.2% of his threes.
Conference USA Tournament Format
All 14 teams in Conference USA will take part in the conference tournament, unlike last year. That gives lowly Southern Miss and UTSA a chance to win CUSA although the teams have combined for just three conference wins heading into the last week of the regular season.
The 2022 Conference USA Tournament will take place from Tuesday, March 8, to Saturday, March 12, at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas. Middle Tennessee and North Texas are the respective No. 1 seeds in their divisions, so they will be two of the four teams that earn an automatic double bye into the quarterfinals. The bottom four teams in CUSA will have to win five games in five days to win the NCAA Tournament, so there aren’t the Cinderella stories you see in other conferences.

For years, Memphis had the advantage of playing at home in the Conference USA Tournament. Not surprisingly, they have the record for the most titles ever in C-USA with six, and that doesn't even include the one championship that was vacated from 2008. If you included that vacated title, the Tigers would have claimed seven championships in eight years in Conference USA before they left for the AAC.
Charlotte and Middle Tennessee are the only two schools with multiple C-USA titles among current programs. The 49ers have won C-USA twice, once in 1999 and then again in 2001. Effectively, they're also amongst the old souls of Conference USA, knowing that virtually everyone else in the conference from the late-1990s and early-2000s is now gone.
However, every team currently in Conference USA has been to the NCAA Tournament at least once, although many of those appearances were tied to other conferences. Middle Tennessee won back-to-back C-USA titles in 2016 and 2017, and the Blue Raiders represented the conference very well both times. In 2016, the Blue Raiders stunned Michigan State as a No. 15 seed, beating the Spartans 90-81 in one of the biggest upsets we’ve seen in the last ten years. That victory led to MTSU earning a No. 12 seed in 2017, and the Blue Raiders knocked off Minnesota in the first round in Milwaukee.
