2018-19 Kansas State Wildcats Betting
Bruce Weber has made Kansas State into one of the top basketball programs in the Big 12. The Wildcats made it all the way to the Elite Eight last season without superstar Dean Wade, and now they have the potential All-American back for his senior season. All five starters from last year’s team return for this season, and all five of those players are upperclassmen. Kansas State is ranked No. 12 in the preseason AP poll.

Kansas State had its first real success under Jack Gardner during his second tenure coaching the team. Gardner led the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1948 where they ended up making the Final Four, and three years later he went even further by taking Kansas State to the National Championship Game. The Wildcats ended up finishing runner-up to Kentucky that year, but it established Kansas State as a basketball school alongside in-state rival Kansas.
Tex Winter took the job after Gardner went to Utah, and he continued Gardner’s success. Kansas State made two Final Four appearances and four Elite Eight appearances during Winter’s 15 seasons in Manhattan, and he took the Wildcats to their first No. 1 ranking in the AP poll. Winter also developed the triangle offense during his time at Kansas State.
The winning tradition was kept up by Jack Hartman and Lon Kruger. Hartman took Kansas State to the Elite Eight four times in 17 years, while Kruger went to the Elite Eight once during his four seasons in Manhattan.
The 1990s were a bit of a down time for the Wildcats. Kansas State didn’t have a lot of success during that era, or during the early 2000s, but that changed when Frank Martin took over. Martin led the Wildcats to an Elite Eight in 2010, and that team also had the most wins in school history. Bruce Weber has had similar success since taking over.

Wade made the leap as a junior. He had battled consistency issues during his first two years in Manhattan, but he really shined last season. Wade led the team with 16.2 PPG, and he also picked up 6.2 RPG. However, he was at its best as a deep threat. Wade was able to stretch the defense with his perimeter shooting, knocking down 44 percent of his three-pointers. That opened up the paint for the rest of the team.
Barry Brown was the second-most important player on the team. Brown averaged nearly 16 PPG last season, and he was one of the best defenders in the country. He is likely to be one of the nation’s leaders in assists yet again, but if he can improve his shooting he could be one of the best players in the nation.
Getting Xavier Sneed back for one more year will be good too. Sneed is your classic undersized forward that plays above his height and does well on the boards. He hasn’t been a great shooter, but he does everything else well and is a net positive for the Wildcats.
