Mid-American Conference NCAA Tournament Betting
The MAC will be a one-bid league once again as this conference is rated 20th nationally by Ken Pomeroy. Although there might be five 20-win teams (Toledo, Ohio, Kent State, Akron, and Buffalo), this conference did not fare well in non-conference play, so the winner of the MAC Tournament is the only team that will participate in March Madness.
Toledo will be the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament if they are able to beat 13-17 Bowling Green at home on Friday. The Rockets lost both of their games to Kent State this year, but they went 16-1 against the rest of the MAC. Ryan Rollins has had a fine season for the Rockets, leading the team with 19.2 PPG and 6.2 RPG whole also ranking first in steals and second in assists. Toledo hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament since 1980 despite winning the regular season conference championship five times since that point.
The Kent State Golden Flashes are the most likely spoiler due to their solid defense. They rank 84th nationally in defensive efficiency, and they have done a good job defending the three-point line. Kent State started the season 4-4 in MAC play, but the Golden Flashes have since won 11 straight conference games.
Buffalo saw its nine-game win streak come to an end with a second loss to Toledo, but the Bulls will be one of the favorites next week too. They don’t turn over opponents much under new coach Jim Whitesell though, and they aren’t as good at shooting from the perimeter.
Mid-American Tournament Format
The bottom four teams in the MAC do not take part in the conference tournament. That means Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Northern Illinois were finish their seasons on Friday, while Bowling Green, Central Michigan, and Miami (OH) vie for one of the last two spots. There is a clear delineation between the top five teams in the MAC and everyone else this year, so the game between the No. 4 and No. 5 seed in the quarterfinals should be interesting.
The 2022 MAC Tournament will take place at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio. This tournament will run from Thursday, March 10, to Saturday, March 12 and the MAC Championship Game will take place at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 next Saturday.

It's a little refreshing to know that the MAC has basically undergone no changes whatsoever among all the tremendous conference realignment in the NCAA. The only other team that was ever a part of this conference for basketball during the tournament era was Marshall.
Unlike nearly every other conference in college basketball, we have seen little change in the membership of the MAC. The same 12 teams have been in this conference since Buffalo joined in 1998, leading to some great rivalries and a special history. Most teams are within an afternoon’s drive of each other, and that gives the MAC a feeling you don’t get with some of the other mid-major conferences.
Bowling Green is the only team never to win the MAC Tournament, but Toledo hasn’t claimed this title since winning the inaugural tournament in 1980. Northern Illinois hasn’t had a lot of luck in this competition either with its lone MAC title coming in 1982.
Buffalo has dominated the MAC in recent years with four titles in the last five seasons. No team has ever won the MAC Tournament in three successive years though. Miami played in the league title game in five consecutive seasons from 1997 through 2001, but they made it to the NCAA Tournament just once in that stretch. Akron had a strong stretch after that, reaching the MAC Championship Game eight times since 2007, including a record seven times in a row from '07 through '13, but the Zips only won the league's automatic bid three times in that run.
