Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference NCAA Tournament Betting
Norfolk State was the top team in the MEAC’s Northern Division last year and went on to win its first conference tournament since 2012. The Spartans had the benefit of automatically advancing to the MEAC Championship Game after North Carolina A&T was forced to bow out due to positive COVID tests, and they knocked off Morgan State to earn their second trip to the NCAA Tournament. They won their First Four game against Appalachian State by one point before getting blasted by Gonzaga, but the Spartans aren’t likely to play in Dayton this year if they repeat as tournament champions. They are currently 20-6 heading into their regular season finale with Howard and will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
Joe Bryant was one of the top players in the conference this season. Bryant averaged 16.4 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 3.5 APG for Norfolk State, and he also leads the team in steals heading into the season finale. He isn’t the most efficient shooter, but he has helped make the Spartans the team to beat in the MEAC Tournament alongside forward Kris Bankston.
Howard will be Norfolk State’s opponent on the last day of the regular season, and the Bison are the biggest threat to the Spartans in the conference. Although they lost to Norfolk State in their previous meeting, they have the best non-conference win of any team in the MEAC with a road victory at Bradley back in November. They have won eight of their last nine games heading into their season finale, and they have two good underclassmen in freshman Elijah Hawkins and sophomore Steve Settle III. Kyle Foster is knocking down 47.2% of his threes to be the 13th best three-point shooter in the nation.
Mid-Eastern Athletic Tournament Format
Normalcy has been restored to the MEAC Tournament this season. All eight teams will converge on Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia from March 9-12 in a traditional knockout format. However, the No. 1 seed and No. 2 seed have an advantage as they play on Wednesday, March 9, while the other two quarterfinal games are played on Thursday, March 10. The semifinals will take place on Friday, March 11, and the MEAC Championship Game will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

It's tough to say that any school is going to run down North Carolina A&T as the record holder for the most MEAC Tournament titles. The Aggies have won this tournament 16 times; 10 more than any other program. The reason for that was all the great success they had in the early years of this tourney. The MEAC was won by North Carolina A&T a whopping 13 times from 1972 through 1988, including seven straight seasons in which it won the tournament, many by ridiculously large margins of victory.
Lately, we've seen a much more balanced MEAC. Since 2003, eight different teams have won the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. This is a conference capable of huge upsets in March Madness. Coppin State was the third No. 15 seed ever to beat a No. 2 seed back in 1997, while Hampton and Norfolk State both did the same thing in 2001 and 2012 respectively.
This conference has belonged to North Carolina Central over the last five years. The Eagles were only the No. 1 seed once in that stretch though, as they won the MEAC as a No. 6 seed in 2018 and claimed the crown as a No. 3 seed in 2019.
The MEAC has lost four programs in the last few years to drop from 12 teams to eight teams. In 2019, Savannah State announced that it was dropping to Division II after years of poor performances on the court. North Carolina A&T declared that it was leaving for the Big South effective July 2021, and Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M jointly announced that they were heading to the rival SWAC a few months later.
