2018-19 Nevada Wolf Pack Betting
This has the potential to be the best team in Nevada Wolfpack history. The Wolfpack are bringing back the bulk of a roster that made it to the Sweet Sixteen last year, and they got even stronger by adding a five-star freshman and a graduate transfer that are likely to have immediate impacts. Nevada is a heavy favorite to win the Mountain West, and they are a consensus top 10 pick.
2018-19 Nevada Wolf Pack at a Glance
Wolfpack National Championship Odds: +1100
Wolfpack Conference Wins: 16.5
Nevada wasn’t always a Division I school. The Wolfpack bounced between independent status and two lesser conferences, the Pacific Coast Athletic Association and the Far Western Conference, for over 50 years before making the move up to Division I. They had performed relatively well at those lower levels, but it took some getting used to the rigors of the highest tier of collegiate basketball. Nevada went just 10-64 in their first three seasons in Division I from 1970 to 1972.
The Wolfpack slowly built off of that rough start though and made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 1984. They earned the automatic bid for winning the Big Sky Conference Tournament in two straight seasons, but they were one and done in the Big Dance.
Their first real success at the NCAA Tournament came in 2004 when they were a No. 10 seed. Nevada picked up its first win that year with Nick Fazekas leading the way, knocking off Michigan State in the first round, and they made it to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time after upsetting Gonzaga. They lost to Georgia Tech in the next round, but it was a very successful season for a program that hadn’t had much luck.
Prior to last year’s run to the Sweet Sixteen, they had picked up just two additional NCAA Tournament wins. This year, the Wolfpack are out to make just their ninth trip to March Madness.

The biggest story for Nevada this offseason was the return of the Martin twins. Caleb and Cody Martin were the best backcourt combination in the Mountain West Conference last year. Cody played the point, leading the team in assists and steals, and he was also the Mountain West Player of the Year. Meanwhile, Caleb was the better scoring threat, leading the Wolfpack in scoring and sinking over 40 percent of his threes. These two play off of each other extremely well, and most teams will be at a disadvantage against them.
Bringing center Trey Porter in from Old Dominion helps too. Nevada’s biggest problem was its lack of size last season, and he gives the Wolfpack a 6’11 center that can control the glass. He could very well lead the team in both blocks and rebounds this season. Freshman Jordan Brown is the team’s wildcard. He was the first five-star recruit ever to sign with Nevada, and he gives the program some more size up front. Brown is a little thin at 6’11, 210 pounds, but his athleticism should give the team an advantage provided he is a fast learner and he has no hiccups playing at this level.
Nevada has depth in the bench too. Lindsey Drew and Corey Henson are two guards that have played big minutes in the past, and the Wolfpack added another big body in transfer Tre’Shawn Thurman. This team has a legitimate shot at getting to the Final Four.
