The Lunar Owls have arguably the best player in the league in Napheesa Collier and the potential for a very strong defense, so why do they check in last? First and foremost, Cameron Brink is still rehabbing from a torn ACL and will not play this winter, so they are the only team with five players -- a potentially significant disadvantage given the fast-paced nature of the games and the need for subs. Furthermore, their outside shooting is a major concern, as Allisha Gray's 34.2% mark from behind the arc was the best by any Lunar Owls player in the WNBA last season.

Collier, who co-founded the league with Breanna Stewart, is on a stacked defensive roster. Although the Lunar Owls project below average on offense, their estimated defensive rating is more than four points per 100 possessions, better than any other team's.
Obviously, that starts with Collier, the WNBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. Thanks to high rates of blocks, steals, and defensive rebounds, Shakira Austin has the second-best defensive projection for any player in the Unrivaled pool behind Collier. And all three Lunar Owls guards rate as above-average defenders for their position, though none has made an All-Defensive team.
One question my projections can't answer is how playing with just five players all season might affect the Lunar Owls, who will be without Brink, the 2024 No. 2 draft pick, after a June ACL tear. Another minor injury will leave the Lunar Owls perilously thin. Still, they're clear favorites by this method.
2025 Unrivaled Game Rules Format
Unrivaled is a professional three-on-three women's basketball league based in the United States. Games are played on a full court with two ends, and consist of three seven-minute periods followed by a "winning score" fourth period played under Elam Ending conditions. In Unrivaled's implementation, 11 points are added to the leading team's (or tied teams') score at the end of the third period. The game then continues with no game clock but with an active shot clock, and the first team to reach or exceed the "winning score" wins.
