Shawn Porter is 30 years old and is ranked fifth in the world. Porter held the International Boxing Federation Welterweight title from 2013 to 2014 and is well known for his aggressive tactics, strength and the ability to produce a large capacity of work. Porter stands at five feet, seven inches tall with a reach of 69.5 inches and fights from an orthodox stance. Porter was born is Akron, Ohio but now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Danny Garcia is 30 years old and is ranked fourth in the world. Garcia has held title belts in two different weight classes. He was the unified World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, and Ring Magazine Light Welterweight champ from 2012 through 2015 and he was also the World Boxing Council Welterweight champion from 2016 through 2017. Garcia is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he still resides.
Since losing in a unanimous decision to Keith Thurman on June 25, 2016 for the World Boxing Association World Welterweight title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Porter has won the next two bouts that followed.
On April 22, 2017 Porter scored a ninth-round technical knockout win over Andre Berto at the Barclays Center. Berto was knocked down in the second round and then twice more in the ninth round.
Porter then faced Adrian Granados on November 4, 2017 at the Barclays Center for the vacant World Boxing Council Silver Welterweight title. Porter scored a unanimous decision win in the 12-round bout.
Garcia is also coming off a recent loss to Keith Thurman on March 4, 2017 at the Barclays Center. The 12-round bout was a split decision in favor of Thurman. At stake was the World Boxing Association Super World Welterweight title and the World Boxing Council World Welterweight title.
After the defeat Garcia took on Brandon Rios at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino Events Center in Las Vegas on February 17, 2018 in a scheduled 12 round bout. Garcia scored a ninth-round technical knockout win over Rios, who went down once in the ninth round.
For Garcia the loss to Thurman was the only defeat of his career and has fueled him with motivation. Garcia has had a storied career in which he has defeated some of the biggest names in boxing for title belts.
